98 galant, 2.4 drivability issues. The car had a code for a TPS problem, replaced TPS. No more codes. Car starts and idles fine. Slowly increasing idle speed to 1600 is fine. After 1600 engine begins to run at a high, low, high, low speed. Engine speed cannot be smoothly held nor regulated beyond 1600 rpm. You can rev motor to at least 5000 if throttle is snapped open, but any constant rpm beyond 1600 cannot be maintained. I tried two used MAFs, and today I tried a new one. The results from all three were no improvements. It still seems like a MAF issue to me, but I guess not. The battery was disconnected for longer than ten mins. before trying each of the MAFs. My scanner is not really helping with any ideas. I do not think this is a fuel issue. Distributor or PCM next. Any ideas?

Was the TPS installed correctly, u have to make sure the ECU 5volts is ok (4.8-5.2) then adjust the first channel to the correct setting, then check the second channel is within limits. you also check smoothness of change of resistance of the TPS while you slowly move it by hand from close to full open, maybe the sensor is bad

P1193 error code car wants to stall when stopping and accelerating

P1193 = Detected engine speed below 470 RPM. There are several possible causes/components which can contribute to this drivability issue. ELECTRONIC THROTTLE SYSTEM (ETS). In most cases, an ETS related DTC will set in pairs of codes. The first code denotes the related system or component. The second code is for the specific fault detected.
There was also probably P1191 - limp home

For this issue, on frequent occations I've found the throttle position sensor (TPS) (potentiometer) had bad spots in it and subsequently sending erratice signals to the ETS Control Module (additionally, the throttle body and plate had carbon buildup inteferring with the intake air flow. Also check for air leaks (intake air hoses, vacuum lines & tubes for cracks/leaking). Clean the throttle body & plate. Bench test the TPS. You also have an APS (Accelerator Position Sensor) located on the RH side engine compartment near the firwall next to the strut tower. These are the initial components to check/examine. Replace as needed.

PO406 ON 2003 FORD CROWN VIC. CHANGED EGR AND EGR CONTROL SOLENOID. ANY ADVISE ?

My 03 had an O2 sensor code and intermittent drivability issues; replaced Sensors and still had code and intermittent drivability issues. Two days later #1 Ignition Coil failed. Replaced the Coil and all issues are now resolved. My point is you may be getting the P code but what is the underlying issue. If there are drivability issues it could be as simple as a spark plug or an injector expressing itself in another manner. If you swap the plugs DO NOT Overtighten them! Good Luck! Let us know how you resolve this issue.

Hi I have Sonata 2005 GL Model. Car stalls when I try to accelerate in the stop sign. Some times it stops even running at high speed in highway or at uphill position. Car is still under warranty, Dealer...

Take it back to the dealership and tell them it's not fixed.. that the problem keeps coming back intermittently. Too many possible causes to discuss here. I've frequently seen drivability problems and no error (OBDII) diagnostic codes being stored/set. Ask the Svc Mgr to have a technician check the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) and the MAF (Mass AirFlow Sensor). The TPS frequently causes problems with drivability, and doesn't always set a code.
