I have a 2004 Corvette and have issues starting at times. It seems as though the ignition switch doesn"t pick up the chip from the key.Is there a part in the ignition that i need to replace?

I have replaced the key with with a new one,and it is a lot better.Every ounce in awhile i have the same issue. If you pull the key and wait about 10 minutes you can restart it.

It is a classic GM issue. You need a new ignition key-way/switch. The 10 min wait you do is a by pass measure. It is a pain in the *** Camaro had the same issue. The contacts in the switch pickup wear, that causes a miscommunication with the bcm that tells the power control system to start the car and power the injectors. The switch is pricy, but the labor is best left to a professional.

Sounds like the passlock system is causing your problem. Have you tried looking up codes?

2015 silverado key not being recognized

I deleted the AI Bot answer and have modified it below. In cases like this though, the problem can only be diagnosed electronically using an auto electrician and a pro grade scan tool computer.

  1. Faulty key chip: One possibility is that your key chip is faulty or damaged. Over time, keys can become damaged, which can cause problems with the ignition switch. You may want to try using a spare key to see if the problem persists.
  2. Battery issues: Another possibility is that your truck's battery is weak or failing. If the battery is not providing enough power to the ignition switch (12.4 volts minimum), it may cause the system to malfunction. You may want to have the battery checked and replaced if necessary or at lease clean the terminals inside and out with a wire brush.
  3. Ignition switch transponder problems: The ignition switch may be faulty, which can cause intermittent starting problems. If the ignition switch is failing, it may not be able to recognize the key properly, leading to starting issues.
  4. Wiring or electrical problems: There may be issues with the wiring or electrical system that are causing the starting problems. Faulty wiring or connections can cause the system to malfunction, leading to issues with starting the truck.

Starter won't work. I replaced the starter, battery. checked fuses, and fusable links. still will not crank. is there a starter relay somewhere? what else should be checked.

there should be a starter solenoid on the inner fender wall just behind the battery. this can be checked with a multi meter. there are some really good videos on you tube that show exactly how to go about checking it. just search starter solenoid. sounds like it is probably where your problem is.

Security light came on and car will not start. What to do?

sounds as though the computer chip that is in your key is no longer being read by your cars security system. these chips are a basic resistor and have been known to go out from time to time. one thing we do at the lockshop to fix this issue is to hard wire in a resistor to the ignition itself ( of the proper value ). this basically by passes the key security part of the system and you will never have to worry about this problem again. a mechanic or a locksmith can do this bypass for you and it will save you the cost of a new ignition switch which is very expensive. ( the resistor costs about 5 bucks -- and the labor to install is about 75 dollars -- depending on what part of the country you live in ). this will also allow you to just get regular keys made for for spares at the cost of $2.75 instead of $29.95 for chipped keys ).

1986 corvette no power to when key is turned Battery is at 13 volts and conections are good.

It is your vats system it is locking you out. It is not reading the ignition key chip. You can by-pass the system with $5:00 worth of parts from your local radio shack. You must read the resistance across your key chip first then go to radio shack and pick up the resistors needed to match your key chip(they will assist you mine read 1850 i have a 86 vette), twist/tie them together then solder & tape them up with electrical tape. Bend them into a u-shape, locate the the 2 wires that run to your vats logic module that is tied into your ecm, should be in the middle area of your dash next to your radio(yellow and brown in color. Cut those 2 wires and add your (radio shack) resistor series between them and happy motoring no more vats problems for ever. Good Luck

The ignition key broke off in the cylinder of my 2004 Saturn Ion. How do I remove the cylinder if the switch is in the off position with the broken key still in it?

If the key is all the way in, it should turn the lock, with a screwdriver. It might not start without a chip if it has one, but if you hold the chip close by it should start, then I would get a pick, a dental tool, something real sharp, fine, hard, and pull the key out. Get a new one made, Hope this helps.

Ignition

Occasionally the shift lock cable can stick and cause this problem. Try jiggling the shifter and see if that helps. You may need to replace the cable.

The chip in the key is purely electrical and will not prevent the key from mechanically turning the ignition switch.
