Fuel Pump - can you here the pump (usually under the right hand back seat) running with ignition on?
Fuel Delivery (injectors) - squirt some fuel (just a cap full) into the manifold.
Spark - pull a lead off a spark plug and use a spare spark plug resting on the exhaust manifold.
Crank sensor - Injectors won't inject fuel if the ECU thinks the engine isn't turning. Crank sensor is at the front right lower side and as it gets older, the wire gets brittle and breaks most of the time where it meets the hard end. The connector is under the throttle body and should read 500-600 ohms.

If the car is turning over and there is good fuel and spark, timing is correct! The only thing else is air mixture! Is it trying to fire up?

  • adrian
    adrian Jan 07, 2015

yes ever thing is correct and what is air MIXTURE. IT'S TRYING TO FIRE UP BT not starting Up?

  • Mikey

You need air to mix with the fuel and spark to ignite! This is pulled through the air filter and controlled with a AFM (air flow meter) and a throttle body! Check these! Also might be worth checking the cylinder compression to see if that is good!

Have a 2013 BMW 528I that battery went dead, once battery charged BMW tried to start and couldnt get it started so was tranny was locked in netural and brought home said i needed a motor

First, remove the engine drive belts. Then see if it will crank over. I have seen an alternator that was seized keep the engine from turning over. If it still will not turn, using a pipe wrench on the crank pulley see if it will turn. Pull the spark plugs. If water or too much fuel is in a cylinder it will hydro lock the engine.

Bmw 135i crank but dont start

it may have an engine immobiliser fitted, just a thought as I cant see why removing a fuse would cause those problems. I would be ringing the BMW dealer that you bought the car from as they may be able to help you without charging you an arm and a leg for something simple that you can fix yourself.

My bmw e30,325i box shape doesn't spark at all,i just discovered that the negative terminal wire from the coil is not connected, and i still dont know where it should be connected.now it looks like it...

the negative terminal of the battery SHOULD NOT BE connected in the ignition coil. the negative terminal of the ignition coil is connected to the condenser in your distributor.

1. make sure that your spark plug is working. try using other sparkplugs to check.
2. check if your high tension wires are working
3. if numbers 1 and 2 are ok, then just replace your iginition coil.

My bmw 318 model 318 does take long when to start cold

maybe the crank position sensor, long starts are usually due to the fact the computer doesn't know where the NO.1 cylinder is, so he fires at random and eventually he nails it, therefore the car starts.

The crank position sensor tells the computer where the NO.1 piston is at and he knows when to send the spark, but u should have a check engine light on in this case.

Starting

I think you have the wrong clutch housing installed or the flywheel spacing from the block is wrong. When the switch was made to manual from auto there should have been something fabricated to shim the starter into the correct alignment with the new flywheel's ring gear the same as it used to align with the flexplate. Good luck with this one
