Changed the starter didn't help , new battery helped for awhile but problem returned
Check your timing, that will cause this also.
Ford starters are problem starters when hot as the resistance in the windings is affected by heat. One answer is to get a heat shield and place it between the starter and the heat source ( ford spare part). The other solution is to buy a high performance starter ( used for high hp engines) as these are not affected the same as the standard starter.

For a short term solution, you could run a small electric heater within the engine compartment which will keep everything nice and warm for your early morning starts.
I remember my father using an extension trouble light and leaving it under the engine compartment during the winters.

turn on your headlights ,then turn key like your going to try and start the engine and see if the headlights dim dramatically, then you'll know if you have a good connection to starter from battery, then check chg on new battery

I had same problem in varius trucks and motorhomes with the same engine size (460)and this is caused by excesive heat from the engine in all 460's,when hot if I stoped at a gas station to fill, once I tryed to start it again it felt like the battery was almost dead and bearly turned the engine over.what I did was that I added an after market engine oil cooler and that fixed the problem.

Hi, it's quite difficult to determine the cause of this knid of problem and you have to be patient in other to get to the root of the problem.
It's either the car is in self protections mode because it is overheating, so basically it is overheating and the computer is shutting down the car to keep you from blowing the motor.
Or the temps sensors are bad and the computer is thinking the motor is overheating and thus not letting you start the car
Usually when this happens its either the spark plugs/ignition coils, melted catalytic converter, or a blown engine. Start off with that order, change the plugs and coils. if it still doesnt work, trying replacing the cat (maybe with a cheap race pipe)
