SOURCE: Where is the output speed sensor on a 01 hyundai santa fe?

I wanted to post a reply to this because I also have a 2001 2.7l V6 4wd and my output speed sensor was directly underneath the air filter housing/box and NOT "deep behind the transmission" as the poster said above. It was very easy to get to, and took me about 10 minutes to replace. The part number for mine (genuine Hyundai/KIA) is 42621 39052 if that helps. And this is NOT the 02 sensor mentioned in the previous post. What we're talking about here is the Output Speed Sensor on the transmission. You may get a code P0720 from your CEL. You can also download TSB 05-40-011from hmaservice.com for more info and a diagram of the location. Hopefully this might help someone in the future. Good luck!

Follow the links for each fault code.

P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction
P0720 Output Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction
P0715 sets when there is an error in the transmission's input speed sensor signal. On the front of the trans there is an input and output speed sensor that the trans controller looks at for shifting control.

While the code could have set because of a wiring or connection problem, it's almost surely the sensor. Input speed sensor failures are not uncommon.

The input speed sensor is mounted right on the front of the trans directly under where the cooler lines attach. It threads directly in and has a 1" hex for a socket for removal. If the wiring and connection look visibly ok then I would recommend replacing the sensor

Po731 and Po715 on '96 grand caravan

Code 731 is for the computer thinks the ratio is wrong for first gear, and code 715 is for a problem with the input speed sensor. Code 715 could cause code 731.
Someone would need to check the sensor and possibly replace it.

Check engine light po 731

Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) P0731 is a transmission fault code and has a generic description of "GEAR RATIO ERROR IN FIRST GEAR".

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the input shaft speed and the output shaft speed of the transmission through the input and output speed sensors. The proper gear ratio will produce a predictable difference between the two sensors. This DTC sets when the expected difference differs greatly from the actual difference between the two speed sensor readings.

This can be caused by several things including:
> Defective input speed sensor
> Defective output speed sensor
> Defective connections or wiring between either speed sensor and the PCM
> Shorted speed sensor circuit
> Open speed sensor circuit
> Slipping clutches inside the transmission

Please note that Transmission Control Module (TCM) replacement WILL NOT correct for this code.

The speed sensor data must be monitored with the proper equipment and the speed sensor circuits must be verified for proper function to determine the actual cause of this fault.

What does the po 732, 733 and 734 codes mean on a 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruisier?

It means that your input and output shaft speed sensors see an error in the 2nd 3rd and 4th gear final drive ratios during the driving of the vehicle.

Trans code po 715 for 1998 dodge grand caravan

Hi
P0715 is for the transmission input speed sensor. This sensor is used for shifting control. It's mounted on the front of the trans, threaded in just under where the cooler lines meet the trans. It has a two wire electrical connector, and a 1" hex for a socket for removal.

This code could be caused by the sensor's wiring, but it's very likely to be the sensor itself and it will need to be replaced. This isn't an uncommon failure.

The input speed sensor runs less than $20 at a parts store and will be in stock at any parts store or dealer. It only takes a few minutes to replace.

Check engine light with following codes p 1529 p0720 p0715

P1529 indicates that your TCM asked the ECM to turn on the check engine lamp.

The range switch and the output speed sensors are the items that are abnormally affecting the operation of the transmission. The diagnostic logic in your computer can distinguish these issues from one another, so you'll definitely want to do both. You have no diagnostic code for the input speed sensor (P0715) listed, so I have made no recommendation to replace it. In my opinion, it's not a labor-intensive repair, so I wouldn't recommend replacing it unless you have reason to believe it's bad.

DTC - P0720 (OUTPUT SHAFT SPEED SENSOR SYSTEM)
Code No. P0720 Output shaft speed sensor system
If the output from the output shaft speed sensor is continuously 50% lower than the vehicle speed for 1 second or more while driving in 3rd or 4th gear at a speed of 30 km/h or more, it is judged to be an open circuit or short-circuit in the output shaft speed sensor and diagnostic trouble code No. P0720 is output. If diagnostic trouble code No. P0720 is output four times, the transmission is locked into 3rd gear or 2rid gear as a fail-safe measure.
Probable cause
Malfunction of the output shaft speed sensor
Malfunction of the transfer drive gear or driven gear
Malfunction of connector
Malfunction of the TCM

DTC - P0715 (INPUT SHAFT SPEED SENSOR SYSTEM)
Code No. P0715 input shaft speed sensor system
If no output pulse is detected from the input shaft speed sensor for 1 second or more while driving in 3rd or 4th gear at a speed of 30 km/h (19 mph) or more, it is judged to be an open circuit or short-circuit in the input shaft speed sensor and diagnostic trouble code No. P0715 is output. If diagnostic trouble code P0715 is output four times, the transaxle is locked into 3rd gear or 2nd gear as a fail-safe measure.
Probable cause
Malfunction of the input shaft speed sensor
Malfunction of the underdrive clutch retainer
Malfunction of connector
Malfunction of the TCM

Is needed replace.
