It is a $800 job usually because you have to access the timing chain case. So the timing chain is usually replaced with it. To get you started , take off the front pass. wheel then plastic panels to see crank pulley. then jack support motor to take off engine mount. If your not discouraged yet, buy a $25 book and continue with timing chain removal directions. This is no easy job. I take 10 HRS.

u may hav bad rings or valve guides causing oil to git in the combust chamber burn and foul plugs--watch how much oil is used-may not be that bad cause ok goin fast--try usin a 40 weight oil-called heavy duty on the container---giv that vehicle a detailed inspection before goin hiway--55 and no long trips

is a vtec solenoid valve. it located on your left behind the valve cover . vtec solenoid looks like a round cap.

Just did one must unbolt the exhaust manifold and pipe and the exhaust manifold bracket boilt and take the exhaust out of the waythe water pump is helt to the block by 2 bolts .. then three on the engine on the back side of the timing chain housing then it will side back and off

Need timing marks 2.4 sunfire after installing water pump

YOU WILL SEE A HOLE IN THE CAM GEAR THAT A 3/8 BOLT WILL FIT INTO. PUT A BOLT INTO THE HOLES OF BOTH CAM GEARS. THEN LINE UP THE CRANK PULLEY KEYWAY AT ABOUT 12 O'CLOCK WITH THE MARK ON THE ENGINE BLOCK.

MAKE SURE TO COMPRESS THE CHAIN TENSIONER AND RELEASE IT WHEN THE CHAIN IS IN POSITION.

My 96 sunfire with a 2.4 twin cam all of a sudden became loud and would not pull itself right, i was told it was missfiring i changed plugs and coil pack on the car but still doing this, does anyone know...

Did you replace the "wires" . The things that go between the coil pack and the spark plugs.

Yes - they both came with a 2.2L inline 4 cylinder as the base option, and the GT had the 2.4L twin cam I4.

2000 pontiac sunfire 2.4L twin cam. When put in drive I hear a loud bang and when driving it has a quieter bang when it shifts gears.

Check your motor mounts, it sound like your motor is rocking back and forth. You can confirm this by watching the engine while someone shifts it in and out of gear for you.

If the belt hasn't been changed in a while, it's a good idea to do it while you're in there -- it'll save a lot of labor later -- check owner's manual for belt change interval.
