2006 Hyundai Tiburon gs coupe 5-speed manual. I have a gear grind going from neutral to third every time shifting. Ever other gear shifts smooth as a feather. Just wondering if theirs a quick fix to help me or do I get it rebuilt or replace it all? Advice would help tremendously. This started occurring while shifting from second to third up a hill that I have to use everyday. Ever since this grind I've been trying to avoid shifting to third. From second to fourth mainly. Its just bugs me feeling it grind and I shift very natural. Please help.

sounds like the syncromesh has gone in the gearbox. If you dont want them to grind, you,ll have to double declutch. I f you cant do this, get a new gearbox.

this problem is a common failure associated with your shift solenoinds inside your tranny. of course a shop is not gonna tell you this because by the time you wanna get it repaired it is usually too late and have already cause damage to your clutch pack and internal parts, thats the main reason why a shop wont mess with just replacing your shift solenoid (aka valve bodie)

is your clutch pedal soft? If so you could have a slave cylinder leaking or maybe just in the the system bleed back up. Might be that the clutch drive disc is burned up making it hard to shift

sounds like the shifter plate has moved or the alignment on the gear lever mechanism is out of line or even the gear stick plate linc is out of line. how much wobble is in the gear stick when you put into gear. if you can put in gear and move it far left or right then its not working right.

If you are changing going up hill you will be going from 4th back to third. There is a synchro operation for this operation and if you get a grating sound as if the gears are not meshing properly on engagement there are things that you can do .
check the condition and grade of the oil in the gear box. check for metal on the drain plug magnet.
If the problem is in the synchro system then the gear box will have to come and have a synchro kit fitted along with new bearings
A rebuild will be cheaper than another box

Grinding gears from 1st to 2nd, 3rd to 5 ok

Either your clutch is getting bad, or you're shifting down too soon, and up too late. Try double clutching. Push in your clutch and push it into neutral. Release the clutch, fan the gas pedal, push the clutch again and shift into 1st. All this does is sychronize the speed of the transmission with the speed of the engine. There were, in the 60's, a lot of cars with the old "three on the tree" that you had to do this every time, and you get pretty good at it after a while.

Trans shifts hard into 6 and out other gears shift fine

having the same problem... my car is an 03 as well... any solution yet? i flushed my tranny, put in synthetic, made sure the linkages were lubricated inside and outside the car, and still nothing.. theres no grinding, at all, its just really gummy

Down shifting

if you are going to fast and down shift of course its a grind maybe your suppose to be on 4th gear not third gear so that means you need to shift to 3rd.
