Power steering is adjusted by the pressure settings in the pump. Regardless of the conditions of your hands, there should be assistance from the pump .I would suggest that you have it checked at an accredited steering shop as the power steering pump may be faulty

your pump could possibly be going bad. if it sounds like the fluid is low even though it is full you need to replace the pump. also check the steering linkage and shaft to the steering gear box to make sure there are no obstructions. hope this helps...

SOURCE: power steering loss

low fluid is the first thing to check. And find out if it has speed sensitve steering. The pressure valve may be faulty ,that system overboosts p/s pres at low car speeds to steer easier

SOURCE: power steering

the power steering reservoir on this car is on the passenger side, back of the motor, far down. you will see a small cap with a picture of a white steering wheel. keep looking, it's difficult to see but it is there!
as for the noise, my first suspicions would either be upper strut bearings, or possible a lower control arm bushing pulling out of place. failing those, could be a seizing tie rod end or ball joint. very unlikely, but not to be ruled out, is the intermediate steering shaft (what connects your steering wheel to the steering rack). a mechanic with a good knowledge in suspension diagnosis should be able to pick off your problem. if you wish to continue diagnosing yourself, a mechanics stethascope can be very useful to hear wear the steering linkage is binding. good luck!

Your power steering system is "electric" so it has a problem. Take it to a dealer or a shop that does a lot of GM repairs.

2009 Ford escape electric power steering hard to turn

This hydraulic pump’s function is to ensure that the hydraulic fluid flows through the power steering system. When the pump begins not working properly, it can cause the system to “dry out,” causing parts to wear quickly and the power steering to fail. Eventually the pump will need to be replaced, so it’s important to follow your maintenance schedule

I30 2016 model.Bought December steering is stiff - sticky above 60 mph making small direction changes difficult to acheive. It is fine at lower speeds

take it back in for a steering module check
the hyundai I 30 elantra has a recall ( 2015) for loss of power steering due to a loss of steering assistance from an electrical power steering fault
There is a control module that applies full assistance at low speeds , parking or cornering but reduces the assistance effort at speeds where assistance is not really required
from your description, it indicates that the control module is not functioning correctly and so you are advised to take it back in for a recall check or a warranty check on the system

Power steering, steering is stiff.Fluid level is up and pump pulley not slipping.Wheels off the ground, ignition on and trying to turn the wheels will not turn left or right. When pushing on the wheel.

If it is belt driven power steering it will not work with the engine switched off, engine must be running for power assistance to work unless you have electric power steering.
However, with the wheels in the air they should move unlless you have another issue, in which case you will need the assistance of a trained mechanic

What does the warning signal PS in toyota prius means?

PS sign indicates problem with power steering. most likely is has electrically assisted steering and needs attention. may want to contact the dealer to make sure it is not under a recall before pursuing any further. the Prius cars have had alot of problems recently.

The steering is stiff and the fluid is full

Sounds like a power steering pump. The pump provides pressure to move the steering in both direction, with no hydraulic assist it will be stiff.

Power steering keeps going stiff all the time

There are 2 things that cause power steering to go stiff. The power steering pump itself either from failure or "lack of fluid" and the rack and pinion assy under the car.
Most of the time the failure is the power steering pump itself. The teflon rollers fail inside the pump and it either stops providing an output pressure or it seizes up. You can loosen the power steering pump belt then try to rotate the pump by hand. It should move by hand. If it feels like it is intermittently locking up as you rotate, it the teflon rollers have failed and the pump will need to be replaced.

Stearing gone stiff

It's understood that the 2004 RX-8 came standard with Electric power steering.
There's a computer module for the electric steering assist too, which sounds like it has it's own diagnostic port.
On your own, I'd suggest looking for blown fuses.. beyond that it appears that any diagnosing and fixing is up to your local/preferred stealership.
