Have 2004 lincoln town car: digital part of dash just flickers on an off, it is not the dimmer switch - suggestions?

digital part of dash ???? Instrument cluster , gauges etc.... Have the instrument cluster checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's , yes the instrument cluster an the BCM - body control module (GEM)
lincoln town car instrument cluster-hn5yx0wggexf1stjxkhlqwlg-3-0.gif Is this what your instrument cluster looks like ?

Principles of Operation
The instrument cluster is a hybrid electronic instrument cluster (HEC). The instrument cluster gauges, warning indicators, and message center displays are either controlled and driven directly through hardwired circuitry, or the information is requested and received through the standard corporate protocol (SCP). The instrument cluster has self-test diagnostics capabilities using the diagnostic tool.

Temp guage not working 1999 alero

One advantage us dealer tech's have over a week end warrior is that we have factory service repair information and have factory scan tool ,Tech 2 , to check data coming into the instrument cluster . Most of you probably don't even think about how that coolant temp infor shows up on the gauge , except by a coolant sensor !

High Temperature Indicator
The high temperature Indicator function handles the control of the Engine Temperature Gauge Display and the red High Temperature indicator. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) reads the Coolant Temperature Sensor, filters the messages, and sends the coolant temperature to the instrument cluster via a Class 2 serial data message. The PCM monitors the coolant sensor in order to determine a fault. The PCM transmits the Class 2 serial data coolant temperature report messages to the instrument cluster for the temperature gauge display and for the high temperature indicator control.
The instrument cluster receives the engine temperature data in the Class 2 serial data message from the PCM. The instrument cluster converts this data into a temperature gauge pointer position which drives the gauge pointer. The instrument cluster also uses this data in order to determine the high temperature indicator control.
The Body Control Module (BCM) looks for the high temperature indicator Class 2 serial data report from the instrument cluster and triggers a chime when the indicator is ON.

Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop , rather then just replacing parts .

My 2002 G35 Coupe speedometer, rev fuel guage and temp guage are not working. What are the possible problems.

The cluster has likely failed, these are really just computer modules that generate displays. Pull the cluster and send it out for repair. Check online for repair centers for your make and model.

All gauges quit working. Replaced all stepper motors. Still nothing is working.

Is there power (B+) an ground's for instrument cluster ? When you turn the key to the run position ( not start ) do the gauges do the sweep test ?
Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?
Go to Step 2
Go to Diagnostic System Check - Instrument Cluster
2
Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
Observe the instrument cluster.
Does the instrument cluster perform the displays test?
Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems
Go to Step 3

Turn the ignition OFF.
Disconnect the IPC.
Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
Connect a test lamp between the ignition 1 voltage circuit and a good ground.
Does the test lamp illuminate?

Perform Diagnostic System Check - Instrument Cluster , Diagnostic System Check - Driver Information Systems or Diagnostic System Check - Audible Warnings before using the Symptom Tables in order to verify that all of the following are true:
• There are no DTCs set.
• The control modules can communicate via the serial data link.
Review the system operation in order to familiarize yourself with the system functions. Refer to the following:
• Instrument Cluster Description and Operation
• Indicator/Warning Message Description and Operation
• Driver Information Center (DIC) Description and Operation
• Audible Warnings Description and Operation
If you don't know about serial data communication an DTC'S I strongly suggest you take your vehicle to a Chevy dealer or an ASE certified repair shop .

I don't know what light bulb to put in the gear shift

It wouldn't even be in a repair manual-seldom needing replacement. Where is it? If on the instrument panel- hard to get to- the cluster has to come out to replace the bulb. If on the center console-much easier- just pull the top of the console off, shifter, indicator there? The bulb should be easy to get to from there.

The gauges on the dashboard stopped working but most of the indicator lights come on. I've cleaned the battery cables that go to the main relay center but still have the same issue. The windows do not work...

Could be the instrument cluster is bad or the stepper motors that control the gauge needles . GM had problems with instrument cluster's from 2003 to 2006 .

Plus look at wire diagrams to see where power an grounds come from .Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter vehicle info. Year , make , model and engine size . Under system click on system's your having problems with . Do they have anything in common , share a ground or power ! Loose connection possibly .
Do you know how to use a voltmeter to test electrical circuits ? How to read a wiring diagram ?

The odometer lights and message center lights flash on and off

This appears to be a common problem especially on the 2002 year model. There is either a bad solder connection on the display in the cluster or a defect in the resistors. The cluster is really simple to remove. See: http://tinyurl.com/2dupvmn - next, do a Internet search for a repair center in your area. See: www.instrumentclusters.com

Good luck!
