Recently had to jumpstart the battery so apparently the alarm system reset itself to the factory settings which are scary! I want to stop the car from locking after 30 seconds - which it does with or WITHOUT the key in the ignition. I am going to attempt to stop the beeper using my owner's manual - which will be a major improvement over what's been happening since the battery jumpstart. Thanks for any help out there!!
There are 2 books, the operators guide, read that first.
then if not there, for sure it's in the FSM.(factory srv. man)
all cars made, same answer.
some cars , just uplugging battery for 1hour does this.
others need other tricks, its in the book,,
Testimonial: "I have the operators manual, as I stated. It does not contain these instructions except to tell me to consult with a dealership. I was trying to avoid putting myself in the hands of the dealership. The service manual in this case is only a glorified laundry list of services I should have done on the car while I own it."
not the servicde list , the fsm ,it is the factory service manual, the secuity and alarm chapter covers the full subject. ever heard of an independant repair shop, with ASE signs. and arm bads, ? (USA answers !) i cant get in to alldata.com , it blocks me now, im out of the country. so the engine runs and all things work ok, just the alarm. right? chapter 1 page 17 covers the immo (opr, man.) and page 32) the page (not pdf page) cover this and says the key into ignition switch cancels the alarm. page 33 is key here(no pun) see deactiving. http://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/...
please post back if the book words work. and if not what happens. the service schedual is not even mentioned. just opr guide and the GREAT FSM.

SOURCE: I can't turn off the factory installed alarm on my 2005 Rav 4.
yeah. disconnect the battery, put the key in the ignition and turn it to the ON position. leave the driver's side door open, and reconnect the battery. the alarm will chirp a few times while you're putting the battery back on, but this SHOULD work.
you might as well go ahead and take the battery out of the remote for the alarm as well, to make sure its not setting your alarm off as well. you can replace the battery in the remote once the battery is reconnected in the vehicle. the remote might need to be reprogrammed if the alarm goes off again, otherwise its time to go to the toyota dealership!
!!WARNING!! make sure the key isnt in the position to START the vehicle, you just want the key ON. make sure that nothing else in the vehicle is on, and also, be VERY careful when reconnection the battery, as it will spark when it makes its connection. if you have been charging the batter a lot, make sure to give the battery time to cool down, because when car batteries get hot, they emit hydrogen, which is explosive. this IS a risky move, but is the only thing you can do, unless you either install a kill-switch or charge the battery and drive to the dealership while the alarm is going off. sometimes, when you start the vehicle, the alarm will stop, but im assuming this isnt your case.
SOURCE: can not lock car by key remote . toyota rav 4 53 plate
If your car has an alarm with a separate remote, it is a separate system and it is probably self-arming. When you lock the doors with the key central lock, the alarm gets armed by the RAV4 being OFF and the door locking action. When you unlock the doors with the key, the alarm is still armed because the key is not comunicating with the alarm just the cars factory keyless system.
SOURCE: when we use our key fob to lock the doors, i know
You should be able to just unlock the door with the key, and even if the alarm is still going of try to start it the key should override the alarm.

SOURCE: The car alarm keeps going off in my 2006 Toyota
Hi,
Something you need to be aware of here is that the factory alarm on your
prius only detects doors, this meaning if any of the 4 doors, the hood
or the back hatch are opened then it detects this and monitors the door
positions, if the alarm is armed and a door is either unlocked or opened
unauthorized then it sets this alarm off. You can jump on the roof or
ram the car with a dump truck and it will not set the alarm off, the
factory alarm does NOT detect impact, it only detects door lock/unlock
and door open/close. The only way this alarm will go off (other then if
you press the red panic button on the remote) is if a door is either
unlocked or opened without the use of a key/remote.
The door entry switches would need to be played around with here and a
scan tool with data lists are needed, I have seen some cases where the
bolt that holds the door switch to the body is loose and causes this.
The Factory Security system has many customizable features that can be
turned on or off or adjusted. The Dealer has the ability to do this for
you. I would first have them diagnose why it is setting prematurely.
Perhaps the sensitivity is set too high. Have them make the adjustments
and see how it goes.
Let me know,if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

see end of page :"if the battery becomes disconnected" BINGO?
its a complex system with ties to the IMMO, so you must look at the actions of all lamps stated there for both, in the operators guide (glove box) all this is repeated and tons more in the FSM, of all cars made.
To Cadaver: thanks for all the responses. I will not be able to get back to this for a couple of days but I will let you know if any of this worked.
