Yes. check the wire to the tag light, also any wire you can see in the chassis. your problem is most likely to be outside. best luck to you

anytime that wires go through a metal piece like chassis or the metal bumper the wires could be cut at the hole in the metal and create a short.

in my galant the problem ended up being resolved by my pulling out the entire instrument panel and all 5 or 6 or 8 bulbs were blown. It cost less than 10 dollars. just be careful though...i removed some of the instrument needles which i didn't need to do and lost one in the dash somewhere and lost some of the calibration as well. the whole panel just comes out and you can remove and insert bulbs easily from the back side. havent resolved the lighting problem with my shift lights though, they come and go and i sometimes cant see the gear finder either. but i can see my gauges now so that is a relief. no more small flashlights........!my gear shifter is center seat on the floor.

SOURCE: Blows fuses when parking lights are turned on. Headlights work fine even running lights.

If it only happens when you turn the switchto the parking lights then it is most likely the swich that is the problem. Light swich failure appears to be a common fault with fords

If you have any of the large chain auto parts stores in your area, call them and ask if they do free scans; most do.
If Subaru has maintained the same procedures for a while, and you have checked fluids, etc., you can try resetting the light via the ignition switch:
-Turn on the ignition (don't start) - switch it rapidly between the 'ignition on' and 'ignition off' positions three times.
If the error has cleared itself (not uncommon), the check light will reset. If the problem is still present, it will either stay or come back on.
Our Su has done this a couple of times and with the scanner we have on hand, there was never any particular repeated problem. Just a computer glitch/hiccough -

2007 subaru outback headlight problem

Each head lamp also has it's own relay, you can rule the relay out by swapping the left head light relay with the right head light relay & see if the problem moves to the other side...The relays are also in the same under hood fuse box.
