Year , make, and model would help. Not likely the input and output sensors. They don't shut off, but do go to limp mode, 2nd gear. When they quit pulling(shut off) it is most likely an internal problem. Code readers won't read transmission codes. A generic code from the ECM will be p0700.

Testimonial: "it is a 02 town and country.it would not go out of first gear is why it only went 30 mile an hour.one day it shifted fine and drove it almost a hundred miles then the next day would not shift again.fluids are fine.when it acted up again pulled off the road shut it of then started it back up and it shifted fine.now it just doesnt want to shift."

There must have been a 'Check Engine' Light? When a 'check engine light' (MIL=Malfunction Indicator Lamp) is turned on, there is a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) set/stored in the ECM/PCM (Engine Control Module/Powertrain Control Module). This code identifies which engine management system component/function experienced a malfunction. Once you pull/read this code, you may begin diagnosis. You'll need an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostics II) code reader. You should find a P07?? number stored (P07??... is a transmission code).

Solenoids usually set a code that can be checked with a code reader.
Make sure that the oil in your transmission is full and clean...solenoids can get gummed up by varnish if trans is not serviced properly.
