2004 Chrysler Pacifica. The oil light keeps coming on, I had the oil changed & it still comes on.

When you say the "oil light," do you mean the light that says "Change oil" or are you seeing the red light that indicates low oil pressure?

screenshot 2024-03-14 153450-undefined-undefined-0.jpgIf you're seeing that red light, that likely means you have low oil pressure and should stop driving immediately, until the problem is diagnosed and repaired.

It's also possible to see the oil pressure light on when there's no issue with oil pressure, if the oil pressure sender has failed or there's a connection problem.

If the oil light you're referring to is the "change oil" light, you will need to manually reset it for it to disappear. Here's how (from Chrysler):

1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position (do not start the engine).
2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal, slowly, three times within 10 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF/LOCK position.
NOTE: If the indicator message illuminates when you start the engine, the oil change indicator system did not reset. If necessary, repeat these steps.

What can the problem be when my bmw x3 has a red oil light on?

loss of oil pressure. it is either due to low oil level or something more serious. Hope you did not damage the engine further by trying to run it after the light came on.

What is wrong when low oil pressure light comes on?

I can think of several things to check. low on oil, oil thinned out ,change oil, oil filter blocked , oil filter relief valve stuck open, oil pressure switch faulty. Best to remove oil pressure switch and fit a oil pressure gauge to get a true reading. If OK just replace the switch.

Rover 75 oil pressure light comes on at low revs

first flush engine oil and refill with new correct spec oil and a new filter. if light is still on..replace op switch.
if, by chance the light is still on at this stage you will need to carry out a manual oil pressure test to verify the pressure reading is correct. If it is very low it may be oil pressre relief valve stuck or worn or even the oil pump itself. hopefully it will be the switch.

Having to top up oil at least twice in between services is this normal? BMW x3 two years old or the oil light comes on

Get to the dealership, isn't it under warranty? The standard for oil consumption before it is considered a problem is 1Qt. per 1,000 mi. (or it used to be) but I wouldn't expect a car that new to use much if any but certainly no more than 1qt. per 5,000 miles, unless you already have 100,000+ miles on it. I threw those figures out because you didn't say how far you are going between changes or how much it takes to top it up. BTW, I hope you mean the oil low (amber add oil) light not the red out of oil/stop the car light. If it's red you'd better look for a huge leak and start with the filter and drain plug if you are going to quik change places.

The "check gauges" light comes on intermittently on my 2001 jimmy

First thing I'd check is the oil level, coolant level. The check gauges light is illuminating because on of the gauges is below a certain pre-programmed threshold. The light is very similar to the old idiot lights that came on when it was too late. Cars used to have gauges and in the earlly 90's the manufacturers figured out that the majority of owners did'nt even read the owners manuals, let alone know how to read a gauge. So they started putting in idiot lights that would come on when there was a problem, they figured even an idiot could see a red light on and know there was a problem. The only problem was that the pressure switches that turned the lights on were set very low. Take for example an oil pressure switch (OPS). The switch is designed to close and complete a path to ground for a light, the problem is it closes aroung 3psi. Normal oil pressure is around 30, at 3 psi the cam and crank bearings are starving for oil, by the time you see the light on it's too late, the damage has already been done to the engine. So the manufacturers started installing gauges and lights to cover all the bases. So if I had to take a guess, I'd say you have and oil pressure problem. Check the oil, if it's low figure out where it's going, if it's not then you may have a faulty sending unit, confirm this by installing a manual oil pressure gauge in it's place. If the manual gauge shows low oil pressure then there may be some debris/sludge floating around in the oil pan stopping up the pickup screen or it could be a faulty pump.

Bmw 323 'r' reg e36 engine oil light flashing

your oil pressure switch is a great place to start. since the oil was really thick you could have a horrible oil sludge problem. about 50-100 miles before your next oil change take a bottle of Transmission Fluid and dump in with your oil. and Drive for the remaning 50-100 miles with the Trany fluid still in the oil. The Transmission Fluid is a great Cleaner for sludge.
hope this helped you

Audi 80 oil pressure light

i think from memory that the oil pressure switch is at the back of the cylinder head, if its not there it will be located just above the oil filter, these switches are very cheep to buy and can be bought from any good motor factors. You are right to suspect the switch, its the first thing to eliminate before bogging your self down with more complicated and expensive problems.
