Hello buiskit: My name is Roger and I will help you. If the fluid runs down the firewall or leaks down on the floor board or on your foot. The problem should be the clutch master cylinder. However should the fluid leak at the bell housing area. Then the problem is the slave cylinder. To replace the slave cylinder you will need to pull the transmission in order to replace the slave cylinder. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger
the reservoir is dry because something is leaking. The system only has 3 parts, line, master and slave cylinder, so figure out which one has the leak, replace it and then begin the bleeding process. Otherwise you will be bleeding it forever. generally the bad one will be covered in fluid from the leak
Once you have the bad component replaced, fill the master cylinder. tie a long rope around the clutch pedal so the person pushing it down can pull it back up with his hand. this will be needed until the system pushes it back into place. pump, pump, pump and hold the pedal down while the person under the hood releases the slave bleeder and retightens it. this is done over and over until all the air is gone from the system. sometimes there are flat compression washers which connect the line to the slave, make sure you use new ones when you reassemble.
If you've not done anything to your truck, check the Clutch master cylinder under the hood, there is a resivoir that should have brake fluid in it. It usually sits next to the Brake master cylinder & is a smaller unit. If nothing has been done to the system recently, and your fluid is full, either the Clutch Master Cyl. or the Clutch Slave Cy. mounted on the bellhousing of the trans. is defective, or has a leaking connection.
If leaking connection, tighten & bleed the system. Check under the clutch pedal on the floorboard for brake fluid, if you find it, the Clutch Master Cyl is the problem & will need ot be replaced. Otherwise, the Clutch Slave Cyl. will need to be replaced. System has to be bled after replacing either & the Clutch Master Cyl. must be bled before hooking up the lines to the Clutch Slave Cyl.
Yes its down by the bell housing. Yes it could very well be leaking there. Might be worn seals on the actuator as well. Easy to replace at least. Are you feeling a sloppy pedal or limited travel on the clutch?
Down on the trans is the slave cylinder and it should have a bleeder valve on it. Make sure the clutch master cylinder is full and have someone pump the clutch pdeal then hold it down. Open the bleeder valve and then close it. Do this till you get a steady flow of fluid with no air bubbles.
