After I turn off my 2010 Hyundai Elantra and remove the key the car still thinks the key is in the ignition and door locks will not lock.

The only way I am able to get the door locks and alarm system to work again is by putting the key back into the ignition and turning it towards start and then take it out again. After I do that everything works fine.

Sounds like a programing problem. Most car accessories are controlled by a pcm or bcm (powertrain control module) or Body control module).. You call it the car computer. Sometimes a spike in voltage or some other abnormality can cause a glitch. Take it to the dealership and have them run a diagnostic and reflash the module.

SOURCE: 2001 Hyundai Elantra door locking problem

there is a short or a signal from the un-locking switch that is triggering your locks.

you have a switch manually to lock and un-lock your doors, the unlocking circuit is making contact.

you can try playing with your switch to un-short the switch or open it up ang check it.

SOURCE: alarm problem on my 2001 elantra

This alarm system can only be 'disarmed' using the keyless remote programmed for this specific vehicle. Press the "Unlock" button on the keyless remote -- this resets/disarms the alarm system. If you do not have keyless remote for this vehicle, get one and have it programmed at a Hyundai Service Center. Problem solved.

SOURCE: keys lock in trunk alarm will not allow trunk switch to lock

The solution is to pull out the back seat to get into the trunk. There are two bolts holding the bottom part of back seat (bolts located between bottom and top sections). Then pull out bottom section of back seat and you see the hinge for the top section, remove the bolts and then you can lift up and access the trunk. It's not that hard.

2010 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited V6 why the key remote want lock the left front driver door?

You may need to replace the power lock actuator motors inside the door . Alternatively, you can try disassembling the paneling on the left side under the steering wheel and removing two black relays on the side closest to the steering wheel. Then remove the relay covers and clean the contacts with a 1/8 fine strip of 600 wet/dry sandpaper.

I have a 2010 Hyundai Elantra. From time to time, I can not get the steering column to lock when I turn off the car. Then, the battery is drained later, because of this. why does this happen?

The Ignition Cylinder may at fault. If it's preventing the column from locking, even though you are able to remove the key, the ignition may actually still be on.

Except for the cars computer, alarm system, headlights, and door locks, as well as temporary draws such as the dome light, radio and power windows, everything depends in the ignition to be on to function.

If somehow the ignition is still on, then all of the cars systems may be drawing power from the battery at a rate sufficient enough to drain the battery.

I would take it to a professional, electrical issues can be tricky and if ignored could lead to severe electrical damage.

Same thing happened with mine. It turned out that the power door lock motor went out. Since the handle or the switch can unlock the driver's door, both of these mechanisms are connected. When the door lock motor goes out it freezes in whatever position, it was last engaged.

Ignition key will not turn...It's in the lock position and the car is in park. 2004 Hyundai Elantra

Wayneard is correct. with one hand on the ignition key try to turn the key towards start. With your other hand hold the steering wheel and turn slightly in either direction. This will take the locking pressure off the ignition cylinder. To prevent this from re-occuring be sure steering wheel is in a straight position before removing key from cylinder. Then be sure not to use steering wheel as a lifting point to get out of the car. If you do the wheel will move into a locked position, which is what you are experiencing now. Keep me posted
