Which line on the radiator of a 1997 oldsmobile regency sedan is the outlet?

Nothing. I would like to know before I try. It's a tight area and would take too long to just start trial and error at this point.

Brad is correct. If overheating, it could be a thermostat stuck closed. A bad water pump (impeller worn down or corroded). Water pump not being turned by the belt. If you're just going to change hoses and replace the coolant, consider doing a flush with a good flush product. Never ever add tap water to a radiator, only add distilled water (it has no minerals to calcify and ruin the cooling system. Get it at the grocery store, usually about $1 a gallon. The green coolant is good for two years then needs replacing. The orange stuff is good for five years before needing replacing. Don't switch back and forth, stick with what the manufacturer recommends, HOWEVER GM had problems in the late 90's with the orange coolant eating gaskets and ruining engines so a switch to green is recommended in that case.

Top hose is input from the engine and bottom hose is output from the radiator. The engine heats up and the thermostat opens allowing coolant out of the engine through the top hose and into the radiator. The coolant flows down through the radiator out the bottom hose, into the water pump and back into the engine.

SOURCE: How To Replace My Thermostat...HELP!

Termostat is as follow. See clarification. R U changing the sensor?
Follow the top radiator hose over to the engine and where it connects to the thermostat housing. There should be two bolts holding the housing to the motor. Remove the housing and replace the thermostat and gasket. The larger side of the thermo goes in the engine.

SOURCE: 1997 Oldsmobile Regency won't start;security light, Happens occasinonally

This is an all too common problem on GM vehicles. The problem is in the antitheft system. When the system loses communication (like when a part breaks or fails) the system locks out the starter because it thinks it is getting stolen. The SECURITY light that is lit up proves this problem. That is the only function of the security light. Go to this link, there is a ton of info on this problem along with some tricks to maybe get you going, along with a very good permanent solution to an ongoing problem with these security antitheft systems.

Newbie here! How to install fuel pump on 96 olds regency elite?

You might benefit from the 96 Regency Elite factory service manual purportedly available by a download for $22, if scrolling through pages or using CTRL F to hunt through a PDF is something you are comfortable with. I have no idea if it tells you to check for rust in the fuel tank. https://www.tradebit.com/filedetail.php/281883502-1996-oldsmobile-regency-service-and-repair-manual
