A Plugged vent on the tranny could cause this and an overfill of transmisson fluid could cause this, but without inspecting it would not know the cause or if it would strand you again?

When I start to drive my ford explorer the over drive light O/D come on and start to flashing. How I can fix the problem?

he overdrive off light flashing indicates that a problem with your
transmission has been detected. Take it to the dealer or a transmission
shop and get it checked out. If you continue to drive the Explorer with
the O/D OFF light flashing you can possibly damage the transmission.

Ford has issued a TSB on this problem. Has to do with a transmission oil pump defect and repair procedure.
Article No.: 97-22-4
Date: 10/27/97
Transmission - A4LD, 4R44E/4R55E, 5R55E - Torque Converter Slip - Diagnostic Trouble Code (Dtc) 628 Or P0741 Stored In Memory
Ford:
1985 to 1993 Mustang
1987 to 1988 Thunderbird
Lincoln-Mercury:
1988 Cougar
Light Truck:
1985 to 1990 Bronco II
1985 to 1997 Ranger
1987 to 1997 Aerostar
1991 to 1997 Explorer
ISSUE:
Some vehicles may experience excessive torque converter slippage, torque converter not engaging, or Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 628 or P0714 stored in memory. This may be caused by damage to the fluid pump support seal and/or to the groove on the pump where the seal is located.
ACTION:
Inspect the fluid pump seal for damage. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE:
1. Follow normal diagnostic procedures as listed in the appropriate Service Manual.
2. Inspect the fluid pump support for damage. If damaged, also inspect the fluid pump support seal groove on the pump.
3. If the groove is damaged, replace the pump.
4. If the groove is not damaged, replace the fluid pump support seal with a redesigned Seal (F77Z-7L323-AA). Refer to Figure 1.
5. Do not replace the torque converter unless it is damaged or fails the criteria listed in the appropriate Service Manual and/or refer to TSB 96-26-12.

1990 automatic mustang troubleshooting

If the fluid level is proper and the fluid is not burned or contaminated, there is not much else you can do with this except slip into the transmission repair shop and have it repaired.

If the fluid has been contaminated (water) or smells burned, you could change it ... but it will just be a matter of time until you are in a emergency situation - stranded.

1990 F250 4x4 what is the 'seal' called in clutch fluid reservoir

It's called a grommet. It may be available seperately but I believe you've got to purchase the whole master clutch cylinder.

How do i change the front seal on the automatic transmission of a 1996 ford mustang?

Your first step is to diconnect the battery. Then comes the hard part you must pull the transmission out of the car and put it on a bench or work table (for ease of working). After this you must remove the torque convertor and there is a seal ther and also a seal for the front pump. Ifyou replace both make sure everything is perfectly clean before installing any seals or they will leak again. Transmission fluid is very thin and will find gaps at seals due to dirt very easily. After seals are installed reinstall trans and fill with the proper fluid as per owners manual. Start car and leave it warm up while checking for leaks and recheck the fluid. If everything looks good road test and recheck. If still fine just keep an eye on it and drive away.

1990 mustang lx 2.3L intermitent problem turn signals and ac fan wont run. Sometimes when driving they will just start after when we started the car they didn't work. What could cause them to turn off and...

Check the ignition switch to see if it's coming apart. You will have to remove the lower trim on column. The electrical switch will separate causing your concern. Good luck.

2000 Mustang trans. problems. VSS, NSS, trans control solenoid?

If your engine is getting hot, check your radiator for transmission fluid; the radiator has a small heat exchanger that cools the transmission fluid it is located inside the radiator bottom; the transmission lines attach there; also, the leak into the radiator of transmission fluid can "starve" the transmission causing delay in shifting, slipping and, more throttle being needed to engage and, shift.
