The Rear hatch of my Murano rattles. The piece that the hatch clasps to is very loose? It won't tighten with a screw driver?

It must be the switch that is behind the lever on the hatch itself, or linkage to the switch. Other ideas and fixes in the link

Nissan had a problem with the exhaust bracket being cracked or broken

your small reduction gear motor screws are loose. must remove seat to tighten all screws.

apply some strong tape to the stricker adding a little at a time until all the excess play is gone

I just fixed my rear hatch indicater, it kept setting off the alarm. Remove the interior cover on the hatch,this is a little tricky there are 2 screws hidden under the carpet covering you can find them by looking for the small "X" slits in the carpet then remove all screws on outer edges of cover.grab cover by lower edge and give it a yank. Once removed peel back plastic.In the center of the hatch is the switch it is round and black with a metal lip around it. I found the metal lip was loose and can be tapped with a chisel and small hammer to tighten it.There are alot of wires in there for wiper,electric locks,glass hatch switch...I found by turning on the key i could see the indicater on the dash from the hatch and wiggled the wires until the indicater went off this helped me to find the right switch. 1. Open the rear hatch of the Murano.
2. Remove the screws holding the rear trim covers in place.
3. Pull off the rear trim covers to expose the rear taillight housing assembly.
4. Remove the power connector running to the brake light ballast.
5. Turn the brake light counterclockwise with your hand, and remove the light from the housing assembly.
6. Install the new brake light. Installation is in reverse of removal. Post comments for more help or information......

I have a 2004 Murano. I opened the small hatch and with a screw driver and someone on the outside managed to open the hatch. The problem appears to be bent pieces inside. After straightening them out and using a good silicon spray, mine works again. It should be lubricated quite frequently.

Quite often after a car has a couple of years on it, a piece sheet-metal, like a cowling, will work loose. The reason it quits is because your car warms up and starts to run smooth. To see what it is, you need to open the hood and then start the car and look and listen under the hood for what is rattling. Carefully push on each thing that you suspect is causing the noise. It will quit or change the noise when you find it. Remember your car is RUNNING and has spinning parts like the Fan Blade and Pulleys and Belts. Its starting to get cold outside so watch any loose clothing you are wearing when you
lean across the engine. If you find what is, shut the engine OFF, and see if it is something you can tighten or maybe replace. It is sometimes a very tedious task finding what's making the noise. Some times it is the engine itself that is the culprit. If you deduce that it is the engine it surely wouldn't hurt to have it looked at by a Pro.

Hello windy....There are a few thing on the murano that could cause this... one is the exhaust gussets that go to the bottom of the oil pan to the exhaust, they can crack and cause a rattling noise. Also I have seen the rear exhaust heat shield spot welds come loose and cause a rattling noise, from exhaust manifold down pipe on the cat. converter. I would check them first, also the park brake cable will lose tension and rattle on the undercarriage.
A more serious problem would be the timing chain and/or chain tensioners...these are known to make noise around 50-60k. The tensioners are operated from oil pressure, the face gets worn, the chain stretches and it results in a rattle or a slapping noise
Useing a full synthetic oil with regular maintaince will help prevent premature wear.

This switch is in the lock it self. Push the lock into place with a screw driver (use the screw driver like the bar that the lock comes down onto)and the light should go off it you have all the wires still intacked.
