There is a problem in the electrics of the vehicle. First place to start is to check the alternator drive belt for condition and tension. Next place is the battery terminals and condition and tension . Third place is to have a load test done on the battery as it may have an internal short and drawing all the current from the alternator. In effect when you add power requirements ( park lights then brake lights then headlights) you are actually using more current than the alternator can supply to keep the engine system running.

Testimonial: "somewhat helpfull but not sure if that is the issue 2 weeks ago starter battery and alternator was tested and tested fine its just weird to me that one minute this peice of junk was fine then i put gas in it then it died like i said was driving to work in morning headlights on drove 4 miles went to stop at work vehicle died and wouldnt start pushed in to parking lot an let set for 3 hrs assuming i had goten bad gas then like i said it started right up but abs light and brake light would flash but as soon as you apply brake pedal dash lights abs an brake go out but then come back on after u take your foot off the pedal .but also like i said you can drive this truck down the road head lamps off runs good parking lights on runs good switch to full headlights vehicle dies instantly as if you were turning the ignition off but if you quickly turn lights back to park lamps or off vehicle will pick back up and run good. so frustrating when single working parent and have allready sunk money into tires brakes water pump etc and now this im very mechanicly inclined but never come across this all terminals are good so desperatly on line post with other electrcal problems list anything from a bad wire to bad pcm to water in the gem module do to leaky windsheild nothing specific i hate this truck unfortunetly all i got to drive for now just need this thing to last 5 more months till i move an switch jobs lol this truck is a curse"

put aside that you have had the battery, alternator tested a few weeks ago as these test are now irrelevant as electrics can fail minutes after a test. If the battery was not tested using a load meter ( not a multimeter) then it was not tested properly. If the alternator test was simply a multimeter across the battery terminals to check voltage, again not tested properly. With the alternator it may be a faulty regulator that is not producing enough current to run the vehicle. Given that you are mechanically minded then you will be aware that it need full current from the alternator, controlled by the regulator to run the electrics of the vehicle As I have pointed out, a slipping drive belt, low output from the alternator or failed battery (cell) will be the causes of your problem. A system check by an accredited auto electrician will find the area of the fault.

You haven't flooded the engine correct, check the spark plugs. Also, how fresh is the gas? Try shaking the car to get the gas mixed up and try cleaning out the cylinders with a torch to blow out excess gas. You should also either try cleaning the spark plugs or replace them if they look bad. It is starting up fine, correct? The alternator is good, right? I believe it is since it sounds like you didn't drive it long enough to drain the battery but check it anyway. By losing power, did the electronics start shutting off first or did the engine die first as this would show whether the alternator is bad or not. Please answer my questions and get back to me on what shut off first when it died and I will help you narrow down the problem with this car.

good luck

SOURCE: Dies after running about 2 minutes

It's got all the symptoms of a leak in the fuel line. You may want to start backward at the tank and work your way all the way to the carb to find it but it would be surprising if it was something else. All the best.

SOURCE: 1986 F150: Rear gas tank results in engine sputtering/dies

i think u have a bad fuel pump, switching unit does nothing but not allow fuel to be pumped from tank to tank, for example if useing rear tank lets feul flow to engine not iti nto frt tank, when it goes bad you will see gas flowing out of frt tank because its pumping into tank from rear tank, good luck.check fuel preasure w rear tank is on.

Testimonial: "Thanks for the response. I checked w/the Ford dealr parts guy who said each tank pumps directly 2 engine. Not sure how it works on other trucks tho."

SOURCE: 1998 ford expedition won't stay running, i can

Start with the vacuum hoses on the motor, this will do this. the vacuum hoses are rubber hoses three quarter inch in diameter on down to real small hoses and can be located anywhere on the motor or under the hood. Look for a hose off, cracked, broken, or loose at a connector.

I have a 2013 nissan versa with acceleration issues. I don't have a code that comes up. Just happened once so far after having to stop for gas. Happened when I got back on the road.

A dirty or clogged fuel filter is another reason for a car not accelerating like it's supposed to when required to do so. With a dirty fuel filter, the engine won't be getting enough fuel which means that the vehicle won't be giving the acceleration performance that it should.

There are many reasons why your vehicle may be losing power, especially when accelerating. Some of these common causes are: Mechanical problems such as: Low compression, clogged fuel filter, dirty air filter, clogged Exhaust Manifold. ... Malfunction of actuators such as: Bad injectors, bad fuel pump, bad spark plugs

What to look for? why is this electrical system malfuntioning?

Well that kind of sounds like a bad connection, but it was difficult understanding with no good punctuation... Have you checked the battery terminals? If not, do so, and have your alternator checked too. I've seen some really goofy stuff happen when some vehicles don't get enough power.

change your fuel filter ..your vehicle will run but your fuel pressure is weak ..also after this clean your fuel injectors by pouring injection cleaner in your gas ,,it will correct itself..Also ,,if none of what I stated works ,,Spark plugs and new spark plug wires needed ,,Lastly your fuel pump

I have a 87 ford ranger and i put a fuel pump in the tank and drove about a mile and died.Has gas to the engine. will only run if sprayed down the throttle body. Its a 2.9, any thoughts on problem. Thank

there are 2 fuel pumps, a low pressure in the tank and a high pressure on the frame rail. the high pressure pump is probably bad. Check your relay and inertia/cut off switch first.

1991 Camaro RS v-6 will start but dies almost immediately

Keep it simple and replace the fuel filter first, if thr fiiler has not been replaced within 30,000 miles or 1 year. Then it's a good chance that it's going to be the fuel filter.

Battery being drained on 2000 Expedition

you should remove your alternator and take it into an auto parts store and they can test it for you.
this alt had an internal regulator which can be replaced easy.
your auto parts store will be able to full feld your alt to bypass the regulator. this is how you test it to see if the regulator is bad.

you didnt say how many miles are on this truck .
most of these ford alt will last 120,000 or more
on the back side of the alt you will see the replaceable regulator.
