04 volvo s 80 turns over but won't start new plugs new coils still no start why

You can get a good scanner from IPD for under $80 that is easy to use and will tell you what is wrong.

Plugs coils,wires.

Check all of the new wires especially the coil wire to see that none are loose. You may need to have the coil checked for spark.

check your alternator check battery see if battery is charging.

when car dies check for spark if you have no spark check the igniter and coil as well as spark plugs cap and rotor

One possibility is the temp sensor,if it does know it's a cold start ,it won't have an enriched fuel mixture to start.
Change it or put on a scanner and look at the temp sensor reading when cold.

Many things can cause this on your 740. Fuel pump, fuel pump relay, rpm sensor, MAF sensor, radio suppression relay. I've never seen the coil fail on these era Volvo's, ever. And I've diagnosed at least 50 of these with stalling problems. Check the codes, and when it wont start, check for spark and fuel pressure, you're likely missing one of them.

Have you made sure the rotor is turning in the distributor, as this sound like a cambelt failure.

ok you said it has fire from the coil but no spark? pull a plug if it wet put in all new and use one to ck fire at plug wire end
