It sounds as if the locking latch on the rear panel has been distorted with the heavy load, smother the lock on the trunk with grease and gently lower down and see where the grease leaves a mark , this way you can see where the latch on the rear panel should be , both the lock on the trunk and the latch on the rear panel have some adjustment so you will have to adjust both until they line up again

SOURCE: acura rsx trunk latch stuck & won't open

could be the spring release in the lever on the trunk itself. If you can hear the acuator locking/unlocking(that is all it's ment to do) then the spring release is the problem. you need to unbolt the latch from inside the trunk and once the trunk is open you can trace from there. I had the same problem due to a minor fender bender and I just fixed mine last week.

SOURCE: acura rsx trunk latch stuck & won't open

I"m having trouble with locking and unlocking my hatch using my remote. I have flipped the white switch in the trunk and it acts as a child safety lock if flipped one direction. However I am not able to open the trunk this way. It acts as a permanent lock. So I figure the switch must be flipped the other direction and need to replace my actuator. Is this hard to do. It looks to me like it two switches holding a bracket to hold the actuator itself after plugging in the actuator from both sides. Is it really this simple?? Is there more to it???

SOURCE: Trunk won't open

well not sure if it will work but try replacing the battery in your remote. you have to hit the unlock button twice for the hatch. let me know how it pans out.

does the key turn the trunk lock?if not theres one issue right there.the other may be that the valet lever on trunk latch assy. may have inadvertantly been engaged if deck lid was slammed closed.the release solenoid will make noise when activated by fob or lever in car but because of valet being engaged cannot release latch.does key unlock glovebox?if not this may also be a valet key cut.contact nissan dealer to cut regular key.ive seen the slamming the deck lid scenario a million times as the valet lever takes hardly any effort to engage.good luck and let me know how you make out.

Boot wont close at all

The latch may be stuck in the "open postion" you might try spraying some WD-40 on the latch. Try working the handle a couple times.

Hood will not close on 1999 buick century, after wife slammed down hood, springs all look good something must be out of alignment to catch latch any help would be appreciated, thanks

i'd check the hood latch,it could have been pushed down and not locking onto the hood latch, look at the bolts on the latch see if it has moved down,if so loosen and raise it up ,test it to make sure it is still latching

Trunk won't lock when closed

LATCH OR STRIKER NEEDS ADJUSTMENT,ONE OF THE TWO ARE ADJUSTABLE,IF YOU HAVE TO SLAM IT,IT MIGHT ALSO NEED LATCH,BUT MAKE SURE LATCH ISN'T IN THE LOCKED POSITION,IF IS GET A SCREWDRIVER PUT KEY IN TURN KEEP THE WAY IT GOES TO OPEN PUT SCREWDRIVER IN CLOSED LATCH HOLE AND PULL ON,IF DOES OPEN IT PROBABLY WILL NEED LATCH

I have a 2002 1.8T Jetta. My trunk wont lock, could this be a sensor problem?

In our case, 2004 Jetta GLS, the microswitch was working, but the latch would not lock. If its the microswitch the car won't make that sound like its trying to open. If its the latch then it makes the noise but even slamming it won't lock, and for the alarm to initiate you have to press down on the trunk after its closed. I replaced my whole thing in about 30 mins, latch and switch, a new microswitch came with the latch I ordered. I was quoted $200 at a mechanic and almost $400 from the dealer, but you just need a screwdriver, hextool and the part. Check out this site for complete directions on how to install:
