On a 1997 Pontiac sunfire 4. Its throwing up troubleshooting codes p0342 and p0107 which are map sensor and a cmp sensor and its miss fire bad. Have changed out alot on it and wont stop the miss firing. What could it be? Has anyone else had this problem and how did you stop the problem please?

What the P0107 code means. P0107 is the general code for a problem with the MAP circuit sensor having too low voltage input to the Engine Control Unit (ECU). but takes time to set up, to just get a quick
code check & look at I/M Monitors

One coil serves those two cylinders (no. 1 and 4), so try repllacing that coil.

What does that mean?

The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor responds to changes in the intake manifold pressure (vacuum). 5 Volts is supplied to the sensor from the PCM (powertrain control module). Inside the MAP sensor is a resistor that moves in relation to manifold pressure. The resistor varies the voltage between about 1 volt to 4.5 volts (depending on engine load) and that voltage signal is returned to the PCM to indicate manifold pressure (vacuum). This signal is essential for the PCM to determine fuel delivery. A P0107 DTC is set when the PCM sees that the MAP signal voltage is less than .25 volts which is too low.

Anytime the MAP sensor signal is low the vehicle will likely have a very difficult time starting. Other symptoms may include:

• Hard to start
• Long cranking times
• Sputtering/missing
• Blowing black smoke
• Poor fuel economy
• Dies intermittently
• MIL(Malfunction Indicator Lamp) illumination

Causes

The causes of a low MAP sensor signal circuit (P0107) could be any of the following:

• Bad MAP sensor
• Open or short in the signal circuit
• Open or short in the 5 Volt reference circuit
• Ground circuit open or shorted
• Bad PCM

This is a camshaft position sensor this sensor may be going bad they are usually located on the front of the motor up hi where the camshaft is.

P0335 - Crankshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit
P0342 - Camshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit Low Bank 1 or Single Sensor.

are you getting continuous spark? bad electronic module? check spark first. should be continuous. do you have oil pressure...some vehicles won't run if oil pressure is not there.

could be the timing chain. Was it a pop or more like a ping . A ping could indicate a timing chain problem. The tensioner might have gone bad.
its not hard to replace for an experienced mechanic

none fire on plug and the coil and the mdule ers good

The OBD II code for P0400 is Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Malfunction.
I'm sure the only thing you have left is you may have to replace the EGR valve or check for any leak from the vaccum lines going to to EGR valve.
