Yes, that's what the security light is for. It should turn on briefly with the key to on, and then go out. Normally it is only activated, disabling the car, when the light stays on or is flashing. So generally, if the light is not on, it shouldn't be disabling the car. But if it doesn't turn on at all with key on, you may need to have it checked.
key less entry system goes thru key decoder.common and likely problem is key tumbler assy. wires (small like speaker wires) breaks off key tumbler which will cause security light to flash or stay on. tilt whell up or down, sometimes vehicle wires to tumbler will touch enough to start vehicle. if so, vehicle can be driven to repair shop for repair. est for complete service.. aprox 350.00
Read thru this link. Unfortunately this problem is really common on GM vehicles. Especially pontiacs. You should find some info in this site that will help you out
if the anti-theft system has been activated there should be a light on the instrument cluster that is lit or flashing.if no light is on then you have a different problem.
this may be because the injection sensor sensing the amount of fuel going in may be failed. so it might stopped the fuel going inside the cylinder. so when you start the engine it turns over but fuel is not been injected inside the cyclinder so no firing is taking place. the light is the warning light which keeps on flickering.
2. may be there is a bloack in the fule injectors which blocks the fuel to enter the cylinder.
so try servising the injection sensing unit and injectors too.
try starting it up in neutral or check the anti thef ligth it should com on and then com of when you turn the key on but if it remainds on or flashing yuo must get a new key
Looks like the anti-thef in the key barel arms itself, it immobilize the vehicule for 5 to 10 minutes has you are saying.
If you have a remote starter, disconnect the immobilizer bypass just in case its defective if not they could have putted a resistance to bypass it permanently if its the case verify that it is well connected.
If not you probably have a problem with the key barrel. Since it is probably sending the signal to the anti-theft intermittently.
turn the key on and try to start the engine it should start than stall, leave the ignition on for approx 10 min the security light will flash when it stops flashing turn the car off and then repeat this procedure after the third try the theft system will attempt to relearn the security data, if it is valid it will then start if not you will nee someone with a tech 2 scanner (gm shop) to help you out
