My 2002 Grand Am will not start, when ignition is turned on nothing happens with the starter, not even a sound from the starter, everything else works. I took off the starter and had it checked and it checked good, also checked the battery and it is good, all connections are clean. Any suggestions on what could be causing this problem? Any test that I could do?

I have a 2002 Grand Am also. I had this same problem twice. The first time it happened, the battery was still working but was not strong enough to crank the car or make any noise under the hood at all. All electrical stuff worked though (lights, radio, etc). So i bought a new battery and everything was back to normal.

The 2nd time this happened, the passlock system was shot (the passlock system is a type of security device the car has installed in it.) When i inserted the key, everything worked, but nothing coming from the engine. I had to take the car to a dealership and get it replaced for around $400. If you look online you can find other ways to avoid the dealership and fix it yourself, but that could result in making something else not work as well.

Hope this helps in some way.

This happened to my car also. When you turn the key so the electric is just on and see that there is a security light on there....keep the electric on until the security light starts flashing and then immediately turn the car off and it should start right up. This may take 10 minutes or so..so keep an eye on it. Hope it works.

I have a Pontiac Grand am se 2.3 liter that won't start everything powers on but hen I turn the key to start it nothing happens not even a clicking to stay an get it t I start??

Turn on headlamps and try to start. Do lights dim? Yes= bad battery connections, low charge on battery, bad solenoid, bad starter. Not dimming? bad solenoid, bad starter switch, bad neutral safety switch, bad starter relay, bad ignition switch. Use voltmeter to see if ignition switch works, and so on.

The problem is that it intermittently won't start. Put the key in, turn the ignition "ON", and everything lights up as normal. Turn it to "START" - and nothing happens. Not even a hint at cranking. My

It sounds like you have a bad battery. Even though everything lights up, your battery doesn't have enough power to crank the engine (which requires a lot more power than the lights)

My ford explorer wont start

So your fuel pump is working, it could be that your starter is not. Check your starter.

have your selenoid tested, or could be starter or most expensive ignition switch. But most likely one of those 3

I have a 1997 Grand Am 2.4 SE that won't start

Check battery full charge, battery terminals are clean, cables aren't cracked, broken or corroded and alternator first.

Which your having replaced your starter with new already. If you're still getting nothing it sounds like a bad ignition switch.

They wear normally and need to be replaced. But as a helpful hint don't place excess keys or weighty trinkets on your ignition keys.

They wear on the seating of the key in the ignition and often promote failure in the ignition from bearing the dangling weight.
