We have had check engine lights on all vehicles
for 35 years--so why the question?

Check for OBD Codes, look them up & diagnose them

SOURCE: Changing radiator

Does the car have a transmission dipstick? Look on the passenger side of the engine compartment towards the firewall to find the dipstick tube. If it has a dipstick there will be a square top on it with a locking mechanism. Run car to normal operating temerature, unlock the dipstick pull it out wipe it off push it back in and pull it back out then look to see if the fluid is between the marks. If not just add fluid through the tube.  If you don't have a dipstick there will be a smaller cap with  red plastic lock on it. You will have to break the red lock to get the cap off. There is a special tool from Mercedes to check the level on these non dipstick units. If you think it is low then add 1 quart and road test for proper operation and shifting.

SOURCE: Check Engine Oil Level Light Coming on when driving on interstate

Hi, this will happen when the oil sending unit(module) is malfunctioning. This a sensor that reads the information and sends the alerts which initiates the lights actions. Replacing this sending unit(module) will fix this issue. There is a more sever issue that may not be the case but, there is a chance. The oil pump itself may be malfunctioning. this could also trigger this alert as well. I suspect the sending unit may be malfunctioning.

please rate and have a great day...

SOURCE: need to check transmission fluid on my 1999 c180

No, absolutely not. Check the transmission fluid level with the transmission dip stick. The oil level dip stick may not be the same length and the markings are not the same. Overfilling a transmission may cause damage. Do not have one then you need to get one. What has happened have you lost it?

SOURCE: 1999 Mercedes E430. Sometimes it will start,

The crankshaft position sensors tend to fail. Symptoms of this are: The engine will crank—but not start—especially when the engine is warm. The car may start again if it is left to cool off, but it may run roughly or have poor performance. Communicating these specific symptoms to your technician can save diagnostic time.

SOURCE: hi..mercedez benz ML-320 1999 YEA.check engine

Those codes are Misfire codes, I would change the spark plugs, check or replace coil packs or wires, check or clean fuel injectors, and replace fuel filter.

Engine light and oil light on

The code that came up will tell you what sensor/ servo/ solenoid needs attention. Forget the starter suggestion. Most probably if it has a transmission code it would be a transmission control module . Come back in a comment as to the code so that we may be able to help you with suggestions as to where the shop should look.

I have oil in my coolant overflow tank. Is this a head gasket problem. No water in the engine oil...

Here is the way to find out pull your spark plug put out and bring each cylinder tdc and put 50 psi air in that cylinder remove radiator cap and check for bubbles do this to all cylinders,if no bubbles I would be checking to see if that engine has a oil cooler that could leak oil into your coolant, some mercededs had oil cooler,

1999 saturn shifting hard what do i do boys

Check the transmission fluid level and condition. Make sure the level is correct, if it is then it may be time for the transmission for service. The transmission service time is every 30,000 miles, and if it has not been serviced the Transmission line pressure solenoid could be gummed up with dirt. Have the transmission fluid flush and the transmission oil filter replaced and hope that helps. Hard shifting is a sign of fluid restriction in the valve body in the transmission and will lead to a costly transmission failure. Good luck and keep me posted, the other thing to that would give you a hard shift is a bad throttle position sensor. But that should have given a check engine or service engine light on.

Oil light at idle

First, and most obvious is to check the oil level. If the oil has recently been changed, change the oil filter again just to eliminate any possible defective filter. If condtion still exists,a mechanical oil pressure test gauge can be hooked up to the engine and driven while monitoring the oil pressure.I use this procedure sometimes on automatic transmissions as a diagnostic tool. This test will identify if the problem is indeed a mechanical fault inside the engine,or a potential problem with the dash gauge,or sensor,or wiring. As a temporary solution, using a slightly thicker viscosity oil will help somewhat if a low pressure condition actually exists.
