Idles fine, oil good, not hot, just all of a sudden started making loud noise when idling even sitting still.
Sorry would need to see it and have a listen to have sort of idea ,do not run the engine but have it taken to a garage and get them to check valve timing before even attempting to start it ,could be the belt teeth have worn on the base of the teeth and now its lost a tooth throwing the iming out and the valves are hitting the pistons also the keyway on the crank could have chattered and worn a bigger groove or if this vehicle has a tapered pulley and no keyway then the retaining bolt is loose causing the timing to move.
It could be a bad damper , bad balance shaft or bearing, bad connecting rod bearing or a bad wrist pin. If it's quite loud it's more than likely a rod knocking and that will require a rebuild of the engine. At idle the oil pressure is at its lowest, that's when a rod knock Will usually start. If you drive it with a knock it will lead to catastrophic engine failure and leave you stranded. You can use a stethoscope and try and locate where the sound is coming from. Bottom of engine is bad.
Can be a lot of things.
Could be a bad rod or rod barring.
Could be a clearance issue in a rebuilt engine.
I wouldn't run it until you Take it to a shop for diagnostic.
