SOURCE: Need torque specs for oil pan gasket

There likely is a spec for oil pan but unless you are a finatic, you really don't need to know what it is. Simple rule: Don't crank down ******* any fastener. If corners near crank ends have larger fasteners, you can tighten them a bit more than on siderails. Before tightening anything, install all bolts finger tight, to ensure that they are not cross threaded. To avoid warping pan, tighten from the center of the pan, working towards both ends, alternating from side to side as you go. When you are finished, go over it again, using the same amount of force on each bolt. As I said, end bolts can if larger in diameter, be tightened more but be careful not to tighten so much that you will either split or push the gasket out the sides.. Anywhere two gasket ends **** together, I recommend using a sensor -safe dab of silicone. An oil pan is not under any mechanical stress or pressure. I have used this method for many years and NEVER had one leak. If you really need #s, small fasteners get about 12-15in lbs, larger ones about 20.

The spec is 12 ft lbs of torque. Use a an even pattern when you tighten the bolts, this assures the gasket will not be damaged and create another leak.

I have a 2002 mercury cougar V6 automatic and I know what the problem is. My car needs to have the transmission pan taken out and replaced along with the gasket. My dad and I want to fix it ourselves but...

easy job. Just loosen pan bolts enough to let the fluid start draining from one end. As more drains, keep loosening the pan bolts till you can remove pan and finish draining what's left in the pan. At this time, most people would also change the transmission filter body: it's right on bottom of trans. when the pan is removed, easily accesible. Parts stores sell a kit with new filter and pan gasket included. Anyway, now you are ready to install new pan gasket. Clean gasket mating surfaces as clean as you possibly can. let no oil or fluid get back on there. Place gasket on (most don't recommend adding sealant or gasket compound). Put pan on with all bolts fingertight. Then starting from center outward, start tightening them down to torque specs-it'd be pretty light torque, like around 20 ft-lbs-might want to ask a ford mech. what torque specs are. When done, refill ****** and check for leaks after running car.

Check Engine light came on yesterday; Had the code read at Auto Zone and they came up with a "P7700 Transmission Controller Error". The car seems to be running fine now, but my wife was driving it when...

Some call this the dreaded code. P0700 Transmission Control System (MIL Request). This code comes on when the transmission looses fluid presure. Causes funny things on the 41TE transmission on the vans. I would drop the transmission pan & do a fluid change. This should be done at 60000 miles. $10.50 for the filter at the dealer. 4 Qts ATF+4 trans fluid $22. Don't use the RTV. Fel-Pro makes a gasket for the pan. $5.99 at Auto Zone or $6.99 at NAPA. When you pull the pan, check around the magnet for large chips, if anything broke internal. Remember Chrysler designed these for women.....

Where is the drain plug on the transmission for a 2006 kia rio5

There isn't one you have to pull the trans pan down to drain the fluid, almost all other automatics out there are the exact same way. Dont forget to replace the gasket with a new one and the filter also would be a good idea

2002 Chevy Malibu Transmission Filter Change...

Not very hard by all means if you have a few basic hand tools, a torque wrench and ramps or a jack and stand to lift the car up...

About 95% of automotive automatic transmissions do not have a drain plug, so you have to remove the transmission pan to drain the fluid, and the filter is up under the pan anyway. Remove all the pan bolts, drop the pan, make sure you have a container ready for the oil under it... If you buy the filter/pan gasket kit and you look at the filter it should be a pinch to spot. 649425d.jpg This is what your particular filter looks like (from the top)

Replace the filter, clean the pan/transmission mating surface with emery cloth, scuff pad, or whatever needs to be used to get the metal clean again (without removing too much material eg. a grinder would definitely cause a leak).

Reinstall the pan with the new gasket (do not use silicone or any type of fluid "gasket maker" Automatic transmissions have a lot of tiny oil passages which can easily be blocked by these products and cause severe transmission damage)

Torque the bolts to the manufacturer's spec (you don't really need a torque pattern, just start from the middle of the pan and alternate from side to side (this is to make sure the pan seats square with the transmission body)) 90% of the time you could tighten them anyway you want and wouldn't have a leak but you want it done right the first time so don't take any chances (you should be able to get the torque value from the parts store where you get the filter/gasket kit). I'm not able to pull out an exact spec for you right now.

Fill the tranny up, then drive th
