1st off You have a HYUNDIA SANTE FE not a HONDA so check that you have the correct parts first.

Checking spark on these vehicles requires a special tool which shows the arc in line with the coil and plug.

An important point to keep in mind with respect to all types of ignition coils is that when the magnetic field collapses, the high-voltage surge has to go someplace. If it can't go to the spark plug, it will find another path to ground - which may be back through the ignition module, PCM driver circuit or through the insulation inside the coil itself. This can be very damaging to these parts. So never disconnect a plug wire or COP coil while the engine is running. It can be very damaging as well as dangerous to you should you become the path to ground. When a coil failure occurs on a distributor ignition system, it affects all of the cylinders. The engine may not start, or it may misfire badly when under load. But with multi-coil ignition systems, a single coil failure will only affect one cylinder (or paired cylinders in the case of waste spark DIS systems). cant get any spark from my coil packs on a 2005 2. - 20406.gif On 1996 and newer vehicles, the OBD II system should detect coil problems as well as misfires and generate fault codes that identify the problem coil or cylinder. A misfire code P0301, for example, would indicate a misfire problem in cylinder #1. Of course, misfires can be caused by a lot of things. It could be a worn or fouled spark plug, a weak coil, a bad plug wire or connection in the case of a DIS or CNP system, a dirty or dead fuel injector, or a loss of compression (burned exhaust valve or leaky head gasket). Further diagnosis is always needed to isolate and identify the cause - which creates a problem on multi-coil systems that do not have spark plug wires because you can't observe the secondary ignition pattern unless you use some type of adapters or inductive pickups that fit on the coils themselves.
\ These also have ignition failure sensors that stop the spark if they sense a problem, like when you arc the cil to the block.

This is a very common problem with these vehicles they have a recall on some of them, check the hyundai web site for more info.

SOURCE: i cant get spark out of the coil pack

cam sensor fires the injectors to synchronise injector pulsing with the spark at the spark plugs.. U need to probably change the crankshaft sensor (around the crank pulley) as the crank sensor is what controls the ignition spark.
hope that does it.

I was going to say crank sensor, but you changed it. What have you done to it latley? Or did this just start? I kinda want to say PCM for some reason. Any welding done on the car latley?

SOURCE: no spark from the coil packs

Check the wiring and make sure your getting 12V to the module (under the coil packs) when the ignition key is turned on. If you have 12V then ohmmeter the coils. The primary side is like .5-1.5 ohms and the secondaries are in the 7500 ohm neighborhood. If all this checks out OK the module would be the culprit.

The most common reasons for them going out are not using dielectric grease properly when installing, and from washing your engine.

I believe this was a huge issue with Volkswagen vehicles

A misfire doesn't always have to be ignition... it's just the most common cause. Faulty or plugged injector, low compression. You need to check fuel pressure and test the fuel injector flow. Then check compression. If you don't have tools for these tests, take it to someone who does. Testing is much cheaper than throwing parts at the problem.

On a 2006 Dodge Gran Caravan 3.8, I have no spark on #6 contact on coil pack, when pulling of the boot. Do coil packs go bad? Any other possibilities?

My thinking is, if all the other cylinders have spark, the coil pack is faulty. I'd also change spark plugs and plug wires. Check good primary voltage to coil pack. I didn't think to look for dedicated ground, but, check that also, where applicable.

Car turns over but won't start. battery good, alternator about to be replaced, though alt. has nothing to do with the problem. what next?

it sounds like either your not getting spark, or fuel at the engine. it could be the coil packs/plug wires or the fuel pump/filter its hard to say what to do first. when you get in the car and turn the ignition on to the position just before turning the engine over you should be able to hear the fuel pump kick on in an attempt the prime the fuel system. if you can smell fuel at the engine after cranking for a few seconds its probably getting fuel. if you have access to an ohm meter with a wire clamp you can test each of your plug wires as you crank it to see if your getting spark. each coil pack sends spark through two plug wires. if you cant read a signal from two of the plug wires trace them back to the coil packs and if they go to the same coil pack that coil pack has gone bad. if they go to separate coil packs you may have two coil packs malfunctioning. this is where i would start i hope it helps.

Ok I have 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I have replaced the spark plugs and the coil rail but still getting the code P0351 and I was wondering if this could be caused by some kind of sensor?

The code indicates the coil pack or spark plug is malfunctioning. You can test this using an additional person. by removing the coil pack and spark plug, place the spark plug into the coil pack and ground the tang on the spark plug to the engine. Have someone start the engine and watch for a blue spark. if there is no spark, then the coil pack is malfunctioning. There is also ways to check the coil packs using a multimeter.

also, bee sure you didnt crack the ceramic part of the plug during initial installation.

2005 Cavalier misfiring on 2 cylinders, dumping fuel

Spark plugs get there voltage from the ignition coil packs, more then likely you have a bad coil pack or coil pack boot, pull one coil pack or spark plug wire or boot at a time, if you see a drop in rpm, that one is good, if no drop bad coil pack.

How do i put in spark plugs in my 2005 dodge ram 1500

I'm assuming this is a 5.7 hemi. Remove the 8 coil packs that are bolted to the top of the valve cover. You can do 1 at a time. Each coil pack has two spark plugs under it . use a 5/8 spark plug socket and extention. If its a 4.7 the coil packs are held on by one 10mm nut. These packs are just inside the valve cover on both sides of the engine. There will be only one 5/8 plug for each pack

Not getting spark

Testing the coil packs.

1. Get an INSULATED wire and hook it to a ground on the car.
2. Get some one to help you
3. pull a spark plug wire off the coil
4. hold grounded wire close to, but not touching, the part where the spark plug wire connects
5. keep hands away from coil and have your helper turn the engine over ( start car and turn off)
6. if there was a spark between the wire and the coil pack it is good. if not, the coil pack needs replaced
7. replace the spark plug wire
8. test the rest
