Instructions for changing front brake pads - 2008 Hyundai Sonata

Changing the brake pads on a vehicle with calipers if very easy in comparison to drum brake. You, unless you have the strength will need a tool to compress the caliper piston to make room for the new pads to fit over the caliper. After that it is a matter of two bolts to put the caliper back on and bleed the brakes.

i would suspect that an inferior brake pad or rotor has been installed on the car. the metallics come out of cheap brakes, depositing on the rims and on the paint and rusting. also, if the brake or worn, they can be gouging excessive brake material, also depositing on the rims and paint. change your brakes to a quality rotor and a set of ceramic brake pads, should stop the fallout. as for the rust on the rims, if should just be sitting on top, and can be buffed off. good luck!

Most of the stopping power goes to the front of the car. You usually go thru two sets or sometimes three sets of front pads before you need to change the rear brakes. It sounds odd the rear brakes need to be replaced at 22,000. havee the front brakes been replaced before?

This sounds very much like a loose brake pad. Perhaps the clips/springs which keep the pads tight in the caliper are not installed properly or are missing.

This is easily overlooked by a mechanice since there are many different mechanisms for keeping the pads in place, and somtimes there is none.

did you check the front passenger door. the no. on my Hyundai Matrix is located inside the f ron passenger door right on the top right corner. its worth a try

Front brakes are simple, back brakes are a little harder. What you need is a C-clamp and some metric open ended wrenches. Lift the car and the hood, remove the tire, and open the cover on the brake fluid reservoir. Disengage the parking brake if back brakes are hydrolic. Loosen the 2 bolts that hold the caliper on and remove both pads. Compress piston with C-Clamp. If 2 piston, use a piece of wood or something that you can apply even pressure to both pistons. Be careful not to fracture the piston or rubber seal. Just be extra cautious when collapsing piston. Use a towel or anything to absorb the metal to metal force. Insert the new brake pads applying a small amount of blue grease to the back of the pad first.
Install assembled caliper. Repeat for second front. The back brakes, if drum, require more parts to pull apart. My suggestion is to lift the whole back of the car. Remove both drums, might be tough, loosen adjuster gear and pull both brake pads off. Assemble compare to other side.

the car is front wheel drive so you may have a brake problem. maybe a loose brake caliper or pads.
