This is a classic symptom of diesel runaway. You likely have a blown oil seal in the turbo, fueling the engine with motor oil. Get this to a shop as soon as possible,.

You should have the OBD codes checked. This will determine the exact fault. The ESP light will sometimes come on if there is a problem with the ABS or with the steering angle sensor.
Good luck with this

SOURCE: MY CAR REVES UP AND TAKES OFF ON ITS OWN

if it is very cold there - then I would suspect that if you let it warm up a lot it might stop that - also try taking off the neg - battery cable and re-installing after 45 seconds off.

The cold and any change will cause newer cars to act different as they are run by computers. If it revs under 2500 rpm - let it idle like that for a minute it won't hurt the engine - be sure all oil and water levels are up to where they should be.

SOURCE: WHERE IS THE FILLER PLUG ON THE GEARBOX ON A 1998

Hi,

Just checking.... it is a manual gearbox?

You may need a special tool for the drain plug and a 17mm allen key for the filler (some use the special drain tool for the filler as well)

The drain plug is located under the diff housing.

The filler plug is located on the left (nearside) off the gearbox (look to the left of the hole and you can see the 17mm hex filler bung).

Check you can undo the filler bung, then drain the gearbox oil.

Refit drain bung and fill gearbox through filler/level ********* until gearbox oil is up to the level of the filler bung.

Refit, test drive, check for leaks and retest level again when cold.

Cheers,

"If this has helped you in any way, please rate this solution" :-)

2006 2.0 TDI PASSAT CAR JUST STOPED - MESSAGE ON COMPUTER ENGINE FAILURE CONTACT GARAGE - CAR FINE BEFORE THIS POINT - COIL LIGHT FLASHING

HI
Think you have problem with Unit-injector. if one of four is damaged, car will not start. Tester will tell you wich one is too blame. If this is the case, change the instalation under cilinder head cover too (necessarly).

2005 VW passat 1.9 TDi "immobiliser activated" on display

There may not be any other way to fix it except to replace your instrument panel. That's where your immobilizer is located. Or you could try this:

Try cold-booting the car. Remove both battery cables from the battery. Short the battery cables together (away from the battery) for about 15 seconds. Reconnect the battery. No guarantees - I found this info at tdiclub.com.
