I replaced one light bulb on the passenger side of the truck and the driver side brake was working. I removed the harness to the brake switch and put it back on and both brake lights were out. I replaced the brake switch and checked the fuses but no BRAKES LIGTHS:-(
Actuate the brake light switch itself (by hand) while someone watches the lights.
With a volt meter check there is 12 volts at one of the cables going to the brake light switch ,If not fuse or circuit breaker at fault, If voltage ok press brake pedal to activate switch, each cable should now have 12 volts, if not switch at fault, if both cables have 12 volts but no brake lights working ,faulty bulbs or wiring or bad earth. Have no meter ?. bridge the two cables at the brake switch with a paper clip , no lights? fuse or circuit breaker at fault, brake lights work?. faulty brake switch.
Did you take a test light and test to see where you were getting power and not getting power. This is your first step. Sometimes people put to large a fuse in and melt the wires behind the fuse box or the connection in the fuse box is stretched out and not making contact. Also a bulb can drop its filament to the bottom of the bulb and cause a short. If this is the case just change the bulb and replace fuse with correct amperage.
Disconnect turn signal switch wires @ column, put power to wires to brake lights. that cks wiring to lights. next put power to wires through turn signal to ck switch. Power runs from brake light switch to turnsignal switch, to lights.

if your vehicle lights are working all the fuses will be good. follow the cable from the towing socket on your vehicle , it will most likely go behind one of the rear lights to connect into your cars system,
check your tester where the cables join and you should find the problem. hope this helps.

SOURCE: Emergency Flashers totally out, Rear lights malfunctioning
Check the ground on the passenger side rear lights, it's likely bad. As for the hazards, sounds like a bad flasher or fuse.
