I suppose the engine code said that cylinder was not firing or faulty? I would immediately get a compression check done on the engine. It is relatively painless. My burnt valves (compression 10psi vs 150psi) could not be diagnosed any other way. Does this help?
Check the gas cap. My 2004 trailblazer kept giving me a check engine light after filing up with gas. I went to Canadian tire and bought a locking (with key) gas cap and no more issues after that. I tried two of the GM gas caps, and they both failed to make light go out. Dealership could not resolve issue, so I bought the generic gas cap and it fixed it.
Was a 10.00 fix and did it myself.
Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and if the light comes back on then it is most definitely a sensor. Auto Zone will run a free diagnosis to let you know which sensor needs replacing.
