i had a similar problem with my 626,what sorted it for me was to clean the crankcase breather tube on top of the rocker cover. The little valve inside this seems to stick but spraying some air intake cleaner (comes in an aerosol can) frees it out and allows the engine to breath better and so tick over evenly.

Have you replaced your PCV hose? If it gets sucked in it will cause a lot of problems.

SOURCE: 2002 Madza 626 4cyl car will not start. Has spark

It could be: clogged fuel filter, bad fuel pump, or the cutoff switch. Could be fuel pump relay. It's in the engine compartment fues block, and labeled "Fuel Pump"

If it's either the filter or the pump, replace both at the same time, it's cheaper.

The fuel cutoff in located in the trunk, along the driver side rear fender, you have to pull all the carpeting and such out on that side to get to it. It's marked "Fuel cutoff" Not sure on the 626, you might just have to push the reset button on the module.

However I doubt this is your problem I would think it's either the relay, the filter or pump.

SOURCE: my1999 madza 626 idles rough when its in drive or when i cut on

this could be a case of carbon debris in the throttle body plates and idle air control chambers...simply might just need serviced/cleaned...pull air intake off throttle body and spray with a good throttle body cleaner spray including the idle air ports. Ive also seen motor mounts cause this as this is more of a vibration felt in gear

Vehicle stalls at stops.

Hi,

I hope this Helps. Most likely its either the Mass air flow sensor or the fuel pump. The MAF is an electrical piece located on the air hose. This video can give you some guidance.

2001 vw cabrio ignition system sensor

Mass air low sensors can be cleaned. If a new one was installed you should be ok as far as metering the air, sensor has very sensitive and fragile wires, and should only be cleaned by mass air flow sensor cleaner. Unless they left it unplugged, or the computer is not picking up signal from one dead out of the box. The all points check may have dislodged a vacuum line. But if you are at the dealer, they need to be answering your questions, after that 4K tune-up.

If the mass air flow sensor is not working it will not get the correct air fuel mixtre in the engine and it will stall, sputter, miss and die. This needs replaced by the symptons your describing. You can replace this youself. It is in the air intake system. When you buy a new one you will be able to see the old one and replace it.

starting definately has a lot to do with the crank/cam position sensors, but it wouldnt have nothing to do with hot or cold weather, oxygen sensor will make the vehicle run too rich if its out, you will smell fuel very strong out the exhaust, that could make it run sluggish also, and usually if the mass air flow sensor goes out the vehicle wont start at all...

Where is mass air flow senser on a 1989 buick regal

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. The BUICK Regal Mass Air Flow sensor is usually installed in the intake air duct between the air filter and the throttle body mounted on the intake manifold. Also check the throttle body for mass air flow sensors location.
On mass air flow sensors with a sense wire, this wire can become contaminated with dust particles. These particles can be removed with automotive solvents that are safe for the use on mass air flow sensors. Before replacing the mass air flow sensor check for air leaks in the connecting air ducts and intake manifold. These leaks can cause similar symptoms as a malfunctioning mass air flow sensor.

Bad or contaminated BUICK Regal Mass Air Flow sensor can possibly cause a wide range of various vehicle drivability problems such as stalling, especially when the engine is cold, misfiring, poor acceleration, etc. In addition, a problem with the Mass Air Flow sensor often causes the "check engine" or "service engine soon" light in the vehicle instrument panel to illuminate.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Mass air meter not reading vane postion

hey rob_andersen,

yes their is a way to replace the mass air flow. Get a can of brake clean or throttle cleaner, throttle cleaner is going to work best. remove the until and spray it down with throttle clean, let it dry for about 15 min. and reinstall it.

Now a little warning for you, IF their is no visual damage to the mass air flow then you can do this successfully. Now the reason why I always replace them instead of spraying them down is because is MOST cases the mass air flow will start acting up again. Sometimes it takes a weeks, sometimes months, sometimes years its hard to say.

But the worst you have to loose, is it doenst work an your out 5 bucks for the can of fluid.
