Sounds like the switch is bad. Use an ohm meter, connect to each side of the switch, then switch the switch over from one side to the other. If the meter does not move you have a bad switch.

The first thing to check is fuses. If fuses are good check the swap valve under drivers side mounted on frame about halfway between front tire and fuel tank.

SOURCE: 1992 f-150 dual gas tanks tank closest to cab of truck pumps gas out the fuel cap

A FORD EQUIPED WITH DUAL TANKS THIS YEAR MODEL HAS CHECK VALVES IN THE FUEL PUMPS .THE FUEL RUNS FROM THE REAR TANK WHEN IT IS POWERED ON TO A TEE AND INTO THE SAME LINE AS THE FRONT PUMP . THE PROBLEM IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FRONT FUEL PUMP THERE IS A CHECK VALVE ON THE FOOT AND IT IS NOT WORKING.WHILE THE TRUCK IS RUNNING WITH THE REAR FUEL PUMP ON IT IS PUMPING FUEL INTO THE FRONT TANK . IT WILL RUN OUT OF THE NECK WHEN IT IS FULL.THE FIX IS SIMPLE REPLACE THE FRONT FUEL PUMP. THEY DONT MAKE A CHECK VALVE REPLACEMENT I CHECKED I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU.

SOURCE: 1982 chevy truck with dual gas tanks with guage or tank problems

all you need to do is listen to hear the tank switching valve is working. It will make a soft noise under the rear cab section with the key on with the engine off. zif you do hear it sounding the switch your tank unit for that one tank you try to switch to is a fault. Sorry no illustrated diagrams are on hand, just knowledge

SOURCE: I have a 1990 F350 dually with dual thanks it

Open up the gas cap and listen for a hum if there is no hum more than likely you have a bad fuel pump. I have a 1988 F-350 with dual tanks. These trucks have 3 fuel pumps on them 1 in each tank and one up on the frame under the driver floor pan which is also the tank selector. Also next to the selector is a fuel filter. I had a problem with the tops of the tanks rotting out also. Hope this helps. Chris J.C. Towing

SOURCE: when I switch from my front fuel tank to my rear tank gas stops

There is no selector valve on a 1995 ford f150 300 engine. The selector switch on the dash sends power to the pump in the selected tank. The pump then sends fuel to the engine. If engine won't run on the selected switch, the pump in that tank needs replaced.

First, I'm not a Ford mechanic.
* Looks like the standard than has the pump inside; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_p251h8sLM
* Dual tanks also has a selector; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBE3LWWmelM

* More (not the best video); https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHSOmFbw7iY
* Three or Two tube?; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6L-dzRj8yM
* Motor mounted pump (unlikely, but just in case.); https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YioeWV7dSH0
* Remember, Gas is Hazardous. Be safe and get a qualified mechanic to service your motor home.

Is there a fuel filter for each tank on a 1997 F350 crew cab 4x4 with a 460

There should be one filter per tank. If there is start with changing the fuel filter in the front tank and if you are still having problems then your front fuel pump seems like it may be going out.
