SOURCE: how can i fix my mazda 626 transmission range

The transmission range sensor aka neutral safety switch is located underneath the air filter on top of the transaxle and very easy to access. Replace this part (around $50) and it will solve your problem.
What happens is this, when your tranny warms up, it disperses heat to the sensor switch and if its faulty or worn out, will send faulty relays to the transmissiom computer module (TCM) and makes the transmission shift irratically (OD to 3rd and back while driving at freeway speeds). You tranny is not overheating like most people believe, its the switch. Mechanics are telling alot of people that their tranny needs replaced. Watch Out For These People!! They only want your money!!

SOURCE: I have a 1999

Hello! The culprit is the Throttle Positioning Sensor (TPS)...Since it was replaced, The problem is more then likely the connector...Pull connector and inspect for dirty or corroded, or broken pins/wires...Do you have a multimeter and a little experience using it? If so the circuit can be easily tested...The TPS connector has three wires...colors are...Gray/Red...
Violet/Yellow...And Black/Yellow...Using safety pins...Insert pin into the rear of the in-place connector on the Gray/Red wire...Another in the rear of the connector on the Black/Yellow wire...Place the + probe of meter on the Gray/Red and the - probe on the Black/Yellow...Set meter to read 5 volts...Start the engine...Meter must read +5 volts...Move the + probe and safety pin and insert into the Violet/Yellow wire...At idle reading should be less then 1 volt (.85)...Slowly increase the throttle to full...At full throttle meter should read 4 volts...The main issue here is that the voltage increases without jumping or erratic movement...If the reading does not increase smoothly the TPS or it's connector are at fault....Codes P1125 and P0122 are TPs related...P0400 is an EGR fault...The Gray/Red wire is the +5 reference voltage for both TPS and EGR sensors...Tell me what you find...Saailer

I connected a scan tool to my 1997 mazda 626 and I got 3 fault codes P1407,P0303,P0171please help

My advise is to look at what moistcabbage had to say about your problem. Then I will add a little advise:
Put the P0171 on hold until you have a verified fix for the other 2 codes. Here's why:
.
A misfire causes raw fuel and air to be shoved down the exhaust as an unburned mixture (After all. that's what a misfire is.) This can cause the free oxygen level in the exhaust to rise and cause the lean code (P0171) From the EGR code that you have, I can tell that you have the 2.0L engine in your car. (This is not a valid code for the 2.5L) In this case, moistcabbage is sort-of correct. Thiscode actually indicates that the EGR valve does not move when the computer commands the EGR to open. (Which SHOULD also be producing a P0400 code, which is EGR no or low flow.) If P0400 is not present, then chances are that this is caused by the EGR sensor "lying" to the computer and telling it that the EGR is not opening when it really is. However, it also may be telling the truth and the computer just hasn't picked up on the low flow issue yet. Anyway, if the EGR is not moving, it could be caused by a vacuum leak, which will also cause your P0171code.
The logical order of this would be to check for obvious causes of misfire like the spark plug, wire, coil, and fuel injector and correct as necessary. Also check the EGR system out to find out what the cause of the EGR not moving code is. (And repar as necessary) Then clear the codes and drive the car to see if the P0171 code returns. If P0171 returns and the other codes stay gone, then you will have to check into oter possible causes of the lean code. Otherwise, I would not waste any time checking into a lean condition at all before the other two codes are confirmed fixed.

91 mazda 626 erractic idle surge when engine is cold

My '91 626 did the same thing. I tested the throttle position sensor, and it was good so that wasn't it. The other likely culprit is the Idle Speed Control valve, or Idle Air Control valve, which is a $500 part new (more than I paid for the whole car). I pulled one off a 626 at the salvage yard and got it for 3 bucks, put it on (it's an easy DIY, just 4 philips screws holding it to the intake manifold), however I can't be sure that solved the problem, since I haven't run the car much since then. It would seem the most likely cause, tho, and a cheap fix if you go used. Other possibilities: O2 sensor or Mass Air Flow sensor?

Truble code p0400

the passage that causes this low flow is in the intake, it gets full of carbon and gunk, try running a wire through it, also make sure the EGR passes a functional test.
