If it did not have an electric fuel before then the installation of an electric pump is a relatively easy process. If you have an electric pump already fitted but it has failed then remove it and install the new pump in its place. Take care to check all wires, fuses and relays and any pressure sensors for correct operation. Remove and blank of the opening for any mechanical pump on the engine
For new installation select an easily accessible place under the vehicle that can be protected from flying rocks and road debris. Run a power wire (red colour) from the run side of the ignition switch to the relay ( to be fitted ) near the battery or in the engine bay. Run this wire through an inline fuse close to the ignition switch to protect the circuit. attach to a coil actuation terminal of the relay.( look at the base of the relay for terminal identification. Run a black wire from the other side of the coil actuation pin on the relay to earth. Normally the same bolt that mounts the relay. Run a red wire capable of carrying 20 amps directly from the battery terminal through an inline fuse ( close to the terminal) to a power pin on the relay. Run another red wire from the outlet power pin on the relay to the electric pump. . Run an earth wire from the pump to earth.
This is a basic electric circuit for the installation of the pump. If there is a requirement for a pressure regulator or pressure sensor to control the pressure or pump operation , that control wire will be connected in series into the wire from the ignition switch so that when the pressure is reached then it breaks the circuit to the relay from the ign. switch and the pump will stop operation until the circuit is again completed. When the ignition switch is off there will be no power for the pump

SOURCE: 1999 Cadillac Deville - How to replace fuel pump?

Hello,

Unfortunetly Cadillac does not have an access panel for fuel pump access until the newer years. You will need to drop the tank. Also, don't let the tank come slamming to the ground, make sure you take it slow so you dont dammage the lines to the sending unit.

Good Luck!

SOURCE: Fuel problem 1998 cadillac deville

I read somewhere that the fuel pump is lubricated by the Gasoline. It warned to never run out of gas with these Cadillacs. It may need a new fuel filter now.

The junk may have collected in your fuel filter?

Someone posted they had there fuel pump quit after running out of gas 3 weeks later. Try disconnecting your battery for 10 minutes first to see if it is actually the Anti-theft system.

SOURCE: 1998 Cadillac DeVille Overheats

The cooling fans will not come on until 225 degrees. Normal temp is around 199-215. Sitting still in traffic most will inch up around 220 or so. When you turn ac on it turns the fans on and may cool down engine, Check fan operation.

SOURCE: 1998 Cadillac Deville low refrigerant a/c

I have a 1999 Cadillic Deville. The low Frefrigerant indicater come on after about 15 minutes of disconnecting the battery power. Each Time I reset the power the air conditioner comes back on for a while then goes out. I have taken it into the local auto repair place and they find no problem with the unit.
Could this be a intermittent connection to the computer. They have replaced both sencors and the problem persists. Where is the computer located on the car that handles this AC sensor message?

99 cadillac deVille ran out of gas now it wont start

Its possible you cooked the pump. The pump needs liquid gasoline to keep it cool and lubed. There's also a chance the pump is damaged from debris from the bottom of the tank.
If you have fuel in the tank, you would jumper the pump relay to find out if the pump is running and what is coming out of the filter under the car.

My 1996 Cadillac Deville takes too long to start if it hasn't ran for a while, and when it does start, it runs rough for at least 15 seconds.

Check fuel pump & pressure, may be failing

Have you worked on the car at all, in the last couple
years, or just driven it,that could be a factor also

Almost ran out of gas. put 5 gallons in tank.

worst thing for fuel pumps is to run dry. The pressure will need to be confirmed. If none ,you overheated the pump and it will need to be replaces.

Fuel problem 1998 cadillac deville

actually it is a theft system problem. the car is acting as if it were stolen and was ran until it was out of gas. the system just needs to be cleared and the car will start right up.
