When an engine oil light comes on, this is the 911 call to you that your engine is having an emergency in that there is not enough oil to lubricate the moving parts of the motor that keep it operating. Those knocking noises that you heard were the dying breath of your once dependable Ford engine; which is now junk. Because you "didn't have the time to pick up oil", you will now have to find the time to either replace or completely rebuild the engine. The Expedition has a V-8 so expect to pay at least $3500 for a new motor.

Sounds like an idle control issue or a vacuum leak. Most auto parts stores will check the engine light for free. Have them check the system for trouble codes and repost with the codes

The fact that the oil was low would not be from the oil pump, but from wear in the engine. If it is not smoking when you start it or as you drive, you can probably keep it running by just keeping the oil level checked at each fuel fill-up. As for the car shutting off, you didn't say if the engine seized or got real hot. A low oil pressure problem should have triggered a warning light before the problem got to the point where you lost the engine.

If the car ran after you added the oil, you got lucky and need to always check it.

2011 Ford Edge was purchased brand new one month ago. while driving today the "low oil engine pressure" alarm activated. oil was subsequently checked and is at proper level. Engine starts,...

I had the same problem after 5 months of purchasing a 2011 Edge. The Oil Engine Pressure light comes on and stays on after driving 10 minutes and stopping for gas- it turns off shortly after I start driving again. I had a 2007 Edge as well and never had this problem. I just took the 2011 Edge back to the dealer. They could not duplicate the problem and instead reset all computer settings. The next day the same Oil Engine Pressure light came back on. Anyone out there with any suggestions?

Just got an oil change and the oil change light is still coming on (it was doing this before I got it changed and the time before that) but now, the low coolant light is on as well...they checked all the...

To clear the oil change light, turn the key to on,and press the accelerator pedal three times real slow within 5 seconds, this will clear the light, now on the coolant light sensor, low coolant, remove the sensor on the passengers side of the radiator,it has a wire clip,so use a small pick, with a slight hook on it,the sensor is square, and flat,You will see,it needs to be cleaned out, most likely with air pressure, then put the clip back on the sensor, and it will snap back on,refill the radiator. If this was at all helpful, please rate,I have a 2000 montana myself,

Engine light came on and coolant leak

You don't want to overfill your engine with oil. I'd recomend you change your oil and put the right amount in it, because chances are, if you are that low, it was time for an oil change anyway. As for your coolant leak, check your hoses and radiator, if you don't find anything look your engine block over for antifreeze residue. Usually when your water pump wears out and starts leaking it makes a big mess.

FORD FOCUS ORANGE LIGHT (!)

When this light comes on, it'll either have to do with the coolant or the transmission. You said that your car picks up speed very slowly and will shut off on you as well. When this light comes on, it also means you're only running on two of your four cylinders. Your car is cycling this way in order to prevent further damage to your engine / transmission.

Check your coolant system for low coolant, or a potential leak. Transmission will be trickier to tackle.

Have you actually taken it to a Ford dealership as I think this light is only for their system to pick up, or just to local garages like Walmart and Autozone.

Engine light flashing

Whens the last time you checked the oil or had it changed, should probably check this first. If it's low add to the line(probably real low) and get the oil changed asap.

Tick noise

if its a constintly ticking noise while driving sometimes it can go and fade away, this is due to your tappets or also lifters are worn out or not getting oil to them due to your oil pick up, and this will also give you the engine light and the engine light wil stay on all the time till the problem is fixed
