SOURCE: tacoma 4x4 not engaging

Do you have all 4 tires matched to each other? If you have 1 worn and 3 new, expect problems. Also, 2 tires on the front from 1 mfgr and 2 on the rear from a different mfgr will cause no 4WD. If all 4 tires match, put it in 4WD and tap on the transfer case and the front shift mechanism on the front axle. One or the other may be stuck, assuming that the 4WD fuse is good. The fuse is in the fusebox under the dash.

SOURCE: I have a 2006 tacoma 4x4, the differential lock won't engage probably from lack of use. Is there any way to manually free up the lock? If this can't be done, how do you pull the diff lock off

Drain out the lube and refill with fresh.

1995 Toyota Tacoma 3.4L 5-speed manual feels like 4x4 is not fully engaging.

check that the clutch is fully engaging by checking if there is free play at the throw out lever and clutch push rod . If you cannot push the rod back into the cylinder then the slipping is because the clutch is only partially engaged. Replace the clutch master cylinder if that is the case. If it is right then the fault will be in the pressure plat/ cutch plate and it may require a clutch kit.

2002 Tacoma engages 4X4 at its liesure

Glad to provide you with my assistance.

It is my opinion that the shift motor/actuator inside the transfer case is compromised. I have observed this several times. The shift motor has contacts that actuate the front axle disconnect device, as well as engageing the 2-4WD modes. If all the wires are good, and all the connectors are clean, the remaining item will be replacemnt of the transfer case shift motor, this would be the solution.
Hope this help you, and thank you for choosing FixYa.
