My echo 2001 car battery died, we replaced it the next day and it died as well. We had our alternator checked and it looked fine. The car runs fine after it has been jump started but dies when it is turned off. What could be the cause of this?

car wont run with less than 11 volts

dont delay in getting the car looked at

faulty alternator or regulator /stator

the battery light might be on constant
or flash on and off every now and again

1. Check all the cable connections on the battery and on the alternator.

2. If they are all fine then have the alternator checked because from what you have described it is not charging. The usual problem is worn brushes in the alternator.

Replace battery .Start car warm to normal, check alternator by removing battery negitave cable, if the engine quits running replace alternator if it keeps running the alternator is fine. As far as the serpentine belt goes it will not prevent the car from starting.However if the belt looks like it needs to be replaced then it might be a good idea to do so.Good Luck.

you alternator is no good to ceck alternator start car while running take off positive cable if it dies your alternator is no good but thats what it sounds like

are you talking about the check engine light I have a 2000 echo with 350 000 kms on it and my light has been on for at least 200 00 kms I just ignore it car still boots along and i have only had to change the alternator and battery in it both within the last 7 yrs I had a garage reset the light once but it came on after a while so i just gave up on it it is up to you As I said I love that little beast it just will not die and it still gets me over 40 miles per gallon

have your alternator tested it sounds like your battery is pushing out out the power to your engine which causes the battery to drain. if you can start the car again pull the negative battery cable if the car dies after you remove the cable then your alternator is shot.

There are two possibilities as to what is wrong. You either have a bad battery and/or the alternator is bad. Usually you can take your car to your local auto parts store and they can test these two items to see if they are good or bad. Just a little word of advice....don't buy the cheapest one you can find because you will end up replacing it again within the next year. Good luck!

Your alternators should have a warranty on them...but if your car is breaking alternators, you may have the wrong size belt...maybe to small and putting to much strain on your alternator.

For 2 batteries to die so quickly, u need to have your charging system checked out. Any big parts store will do a free system check, they want to sell u parts. Of course, u don't have to buy anything, but u will have an idea what is wrong, and what to do to fix it. It's probably the alternator as u suspect, and as far as the squealing belt, it needs to be adjusted, or if the echo has a auto. tensioner, u probably should replace the belt.

well this is what you should try ,,jump the car get it running
then when its warmed up take the positive lead of the battery
if the car stops the alternator is gone (thats what charges the battery) if the car runs its fine

and if u have put another new battery in it and the alternator is fine look for any broken wires earths or positives that could be making it drain so quick
and make sure your battery levels are full
