1997 Chrysler T&C Van - gauges are out, intermittent start prob

After it was sitting, did the battery go flat, or did you have to remove it to charge it? Immobilizer and anti-theft system reset needed?

You can't. It has an anti-theft device. The days of boosting a car with a couple of wires ended in the 1980s! You have to fix the problem, not find a way around it.

first i would check your key and ignition switch for problem if key worn or ignition cylinder worn vehicle will have intermittent start --as to anti theft yes their is one

Is that why you replaced the pump in the first place ? What make , model an year an engine size ? Is anti-theft light lit on instrument cluster ? Did you test electrical circuit for fuel pump before replacing the pump ? Anti-theft system problems will cause vehicle to run then die after a second or two .

I would treat it as a general no start condition. It could be fuel or ignition. The anti-theft system would prevent it from starting but not kill the engine once it has started.
Check the fuel pressure with a gauge and watch the spark at the plugs.

You will need to call a locksmith on this.

This sounds like the anti theft security is not getting the info that it needs to allow the van to run. If the dash is messed up, then it might be effecting the way the computer receives the security info and is not allowing it to start. Believe it or not, your key is constantly sending a signal thru your ignition to your Theft deterrent module which ALLOWS your van to stay running. If this has been interupted, the van goes into anti theft mode. I have a 97 Chrysler Town & Country Van with 104000 miles on it. The past two months the van will not start and run after driving for a while. Let it set for about an hour and it will start and run fine. When it does not want to run it will start and run for about 5 seconds then quit. During this time the dash instruments will not display but the radio, windows, and lights work just fine. The battery was replaced with in the past month so I don' t think that is the problem. Any seggestions?

Had the same problem- the AC Delco mechanic said sometimes if you accidentally put the wrong GM key into the ignition(which I had), it sends a message to the anti-theft that the ignition is being tampered with(foreign object). It has to be reset with a diagnostic tester, and the anti-theft will put itself to rest. I had been getting in the Malibu and putting my Express Van keys into it, Hey , the all llok alike!
