SOURCE: In 2002 Toyota Echo, I need to replace blower

blower switch is your fan knob on dash. resistors are located under pass side dash next to blower motor. on alot of cars the blower will work on high speed and not the lower ones- this is a tell tale way to tell the resistor is no good. if this happens again after replacing resistor- ive seen the blower motor shorting out causing the resistor to go bad- then you would have to replace both.(this usually dosnt happen, most often the resistor alone fixes the problem..

How to chance heater fan in 1999 dodge caravan

Instructions
  1. Removal
    • Raise the hood on the minivan and locate the battery. Using a socket wrench, disconnect the negative battery cable. Wrap the entire metal end of the cable with electrical tape. Lay the cable down within the engine compartment. Make sure the cable does not touch any metal or the engine itself. To identify the negative post on the battery, look for a minus symbol on top of the battery case.
    • 2Open the passenger side door on the van. Open the glove box and remove all of its contents. On the top rear of the glove box, find two stopping tabs, one on the left and one on the right. Using both hands, press both tabs inward simultaneously and lower the glove box from its position on the dashboard. It doesn't have to be removed, it will be OK hanging there until the repair is finished.

    • 3Locate the blower motor's plastic cover. It will resemble an elongated half circle with two wires coming out of it. Follow the two wires coming out of the cover and see where they are plugged into a wiring harness. Unplug the wiring harness by hand. If you have trouble lifting the safety clip on the harness plug, use a flat-head screwdriver.
    • 4Remove the three screws securing the blower motor's cover with a Philips screwdriver. Remove the plastic cover and set it to the side of the work area along with its screws.
    • 5Remove the rubber grommet on the blower motor housing where the two wires come out. Back-feed the wires through the hole on the blower motor housing.
    • 6Support the blower motor with one hand and remove all three of its retaining screws one at a time. Carefully lower the blower motor from its position in the housing.
    Installation
    • 7Inspect the new blower motor for any visible signs of damage. Spin the fan cage in both directions. It should rotate smoothly, free of any obstruction. Compare the old and new blower motors side by side. They should appear identical. Check the wiring harness plugs against each other as well to make sure they are also the same.
    • 8Place the new blower motor back into the housing exactly as you removed the old one. Support the blower motor with one hand and return all three of its mounting screws securely.
    • 9Feed the two wires on the blower motor back through the hole on the housing. Return the rubber grommet to its original position on the housing as well.
    • 10Position the blower motor's cover in place. Return all three of its mounting screws securely. Plug the blower motor's wiring harness back up to its connection. You should feel and hear a small click letting you know the harness plug is secure.
    • 11Raise the glove box and squeeze both of its tabs inward again to secure it back to the dashboard. Remove the tape from the negative battery cable and secure the cable back to its post on the battery. Start the minivan and test out the new blower motor. Make sure your test includes both heat and AC on all settings between low to high.

Video how to to change the blower fan on toyota Echo 2002

This blower fan in the 2002 Toyota Echo is located under the dashboard on the passenger side of the vehicle. It is covered by a plastic panel that snaps into place and shields the motor from accidental damage. When the blower fan fails, air will not come out of the vehicle's vents despite the fan control speed setting. A replacement blower motor can be purchased from a certified Toyota dealerships or any auto parts store

My 1988 Ford Tempo's heater fan is not working. I can feel heat at the windshield vents, but the fan wont come on. I have jumped the fan speed switch with a paper clip--and blew a fuse--and checked the...

your circuit is simple--I will paste it below. suspect the blower has shorted and caused the switch to burn up. remove the blower and hotwire it to the battery to see if it works. If not, replace the blower. Then run continuity tests on the swoitch and replace switch if bad. If you have questions, please let me know. Here is procedure for taking blower out:

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION With Air Conditioning

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the glove compartment door and glove compartment by removing the retaining screws and bolts. Push the sides of the glove box in to free the drawer from dash panel.
  3. Loosen the instrument panel at the lower right hand of the glove compartment opening. This is on it necessary if the panel is in the way of the motor housing.
  4. Remove the retaining screws securing the ducting around the blower motor.
  5. Remove the clip securing the blower motor fan blade to the motor arm. Remove the fan blade from the motor.
  6. Remove the blower motor mounting plate from the evaporator case by unscrewing the retaining screws.
  7. Rotate the motor until the mounting plate clears the edge of the glove compartment opening and remove the motor.
  8. Remove the wire harness from the rear of the motor.
  9. Inspect the fan blade for broken edges or cracks. Replace if needed.

To install:
  1. Connect the wire harness to the rear of the blower motor.
  2. Install the motor into the case and secure with the retaining screws.
  3. Position and fasten the fan blade to the blower motor arm. Secure with the clip.
  4. Secure the blower motor outer housing to the duct assembly with the retaining screws.
  5. Install the instrument panel at the lower right hand side if removed earlier.
  6. Install the glove compartment door and glove compartment.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8. Run blower motors to make the motor works correctly.
Without Air Conditioning
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the right ventilator assembly.
  3. Remove the hub clamp spring from the blower wheel hub. Pull the blower wheel from the blower motor shaft.
  4. Remove the blower motor flange attaching screws located inside the blower housing.
  5. Pull the blower motor out from the blower housing (heater case) and disconnect the blower motor wires from the motor.

To install:
  1. Connect the wires to the blower motor and position the motor in the blower housing.
  2. Install the blower motor attaching screws.
  3. Position the blower wheel on the motor shaft and install the hub clamp spring.
  4. Install the air inlet duct assembly and the right ventilator assembly.

A/C Blower

Ok, you need to check firstly that the motor is ok - probably is fine. Make up two long ish wires with female insulated spade terminals on. The wire needs to be able to carry 20A, so at least 2mm core. Remove plastic connector and replace with the spade terminals. Connect two wire ends to 12v source (cigarette socket or 12v battery) either way round. If you get spark and then the blower starts, its fine.
If not, dead motor. The motor assy is held in with 4 screws, upwards. Its very easy to see and remove if you lie on the passenger footwell facing upwards with a torch. NO PANELS NEED REMOVING!

If motor ok, then unlikely to be feed or switch. Remove the glove box (two screws at the bottom, visible just by looking at bottom with door open.) then remove the plastic panel. Its held by one plastic clip down the side, four screws visible, and pain in the backside, one or two screws behind the centre dash plastic. You will need to remove the radio, then the two screws upwards in the black plastic centre pannel (above the radio fascia) and one at the bottom between ashtray and socket. Then the panel will pull firmly forward (four plastic hidden spring clips)
Now you can see the screw holding the panel.
Remove the panel, and you will see a five way multiconnector dissapearing into the blower/heater housing. This is the resistor panel. Its held in with two screws. Remove it. If you are brave you can open it up, but you can make things worse - though if your only other option is a new one, cant hurt!
These are sometimes resolderable, with good soldering kit, but not always.
I can repair these if needed...email me
