Disconnect the fuel line from the filter( replace the fuel filter), add some hose to it to reach a bucket. Find the wires for the fuel pump. Jump them with a 12 volt battery and pump it out. After that I would put in 2 bottles of injector cleaner and 5 gallons of fuel. Run that for a awhile. Then 2 more cleaners and fill it up.

The best way is to take the tank out completely to clean , as you have to make sure that it is 100% clean so that the problem is solved completely.
If not cleaned properly it will make you a lot of problems

SOURCE: 87 jag xj6. Brake pedal spongy goes all the way

If the brake lines and fluid is clear then you may have to look at the brake booster found at the other end of the brake pedal under the hood...

How to drain fuel tank 86 Jag XJ6

Remove as much fuel from tank using a syphon or plastic pump.
Remove tank from car, Tip it upside down to drain remaining fuel.
DO NOT WELD the tank if it is leaking or the remaining fuel fumes will explode.

Have you checked the wire that goes to the fuel tank. I have the same issue and I have to go and jiggle the wire going to the fuel tank. I'm going to take it to see about getting that fixed.

Have a 87 jag xj6 vp and it's been sitting for about a yr and gas is bad how do I drain gas from gas tank? thanks

Unless there is a drain plug for the tank, my guess would be to use a syphon pump like you would use for a boat.

I would like to know if you could help me change out an alternator/ well actuelly tell me the best way to do so.Also the car does have all a/c parts still installed ? thanks for all help ! Oh and the car...

You can buy a service manual on ebay for less than the price of a tank of gas. Also you can go search on www.youtube.com there is no doubt a jag mechanic who makes videos of these routine procedures.

1984 jag xj6 has no power

Hi Clyde

Expect you have it running by now, as I see this was posted 2 March ?

If not......

Charge up your battery, and heavy discharge test, suspect you have short in the plates.

If OK, jump start with a set of proper heavy duty jump leads.

Good Luck !

A FixYa would be nice...Thank´s......John.

Jaguar xj6 1991 2.9 manual

2 things, first of all teh distributor cap and rotor go bad causing the car to have spark but not fire, secondly you need to make sure that you are getting fuel to the engine bay, if not then it could be the fuel pump.

In regard to the other gentlemans question, starts but cuts out I would start with the same process and open your fuel flap and make sure there is no water around the filler area as it sounds like you could also have water in your gas. (there is a drain next to the filler neck and it gets clogged over time, then when it rains or you wash your wash, that area fills with water and seeps into the tank)

Fuel Stench

have you checked the drain line that is connected to the boot within the filler area,,?,,some gas may be dripping onto/ into the boot,,,then draining into your trunk,,,,there should be a water line running from the boot,,,thru your trunk then out the bottom of the trunk. Some gas may be draining into the water line and if the line is not going out the trunk then it may be drippijng into your trunk. also check to see if you cap is fitting correctly,,
i get a gass smell ever once and awhile,,but mostly no smell at all.
i hope this may help...
