Could be a timing problem, poor quality gas, running lean.

SOURCE: My hyundai is making a rattling noise

that sounds like what we call "spark knock" that occurs when u accellerate quickly, but yes it will go away in a few seconds when the computer detects this condition. with the economy the way it is it will be more expensive, but try running higher octane gasoline in it, should cure this condition. hope that helped you!!

2004 Chevy trailblazer 4.2. Humming from under the hood?

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to model category.

If you get a 4 foot length of 1\4" clear plastic hose, you can put one end in you ear and use it as a stethoscope to track down the humming. The closer you get, the louder the noise will become.

Loud rattle sound when Idling

I suggest you have your car checked as soon as possible - while a rattling exhaust isn't desperately urgent it could be the cat breaking up which might later restrict the flow of gases. Most importantly excessively loose timing belts or chains tend to make most noise when the engine is idling. If the noise is being caused by this delay could be very expensive.

Engine has hesitation/miss without a check engine light coming on upon acceleration

there are many things that could cause that from bad gas to weak fuel pump or dirty inline filter or timing chain could be weak or dirty intake or bad catalitic converter or no converter or even a vaccum line off or cracked or even a bad EGR valve so you see theres alot of things that cause poor exceleration or idle. Hope this was some what helpfull.

When should i change my timing belt or timing chain in my 2004 chevy trailblazer?

The vehicle uses timing chains, which should last the lifetime of the engine. In rare cases, servicing is needed if the timing chain guides encounter excessive wear. Symptoms include rattling noises from the timing cover. Hopefully this helps!!

Knocking noise at idle

This is AC compressor rattle, don't worry about it unless it is really loud, in that case replace the compressor.
