Where is it, on a 2.5L I4 jeep. 1991. ok. first ever post with engine size.
bravo that. amazing....
the FSM covers this. factory service manual;,.
ok, i see you are reading books or web sites that have generic tuneup information, not relate to real jeeps, yes?
or bob with a toyota told me to change it out? yes?

Guess what?, there IS NONE.
it only has and ORIFICE.
and sure it can clog, and does, in fact i drove for 500,000 miles
in 3 jeeps. and cleaned it vast times.
on one car , the grommet got old and it the orifice collapsed.
and i had to buy a new one from jeep.
see word FIXED below.?
when it clogges, the engine leaks oil
and the oil pukes (backups) and dumps oil on the air cleaner.
there is no PCV valve, on this engine. but that dont mean its service free.

a right angle pipe coming out from the top of the valve cover with a rubber hose attached. if you it out, shank it! it should sound like a mabble inside of it.

The tube that comes out of the top of the valve cover is your pcv.
The grommet that it goes into gets blocked.

SOURCE: How do you bleed the clutch in a 1991 Jeep Wrangler?

If replacing just the fluid, you should gravity bleed it by opening the valve at the side of the transmission where the line goes in to connect with the slave cylinder. Be sure to stand by and keep the tiny reservoir from going empty during bleeding, or you just make things worse. Assume you replaced parts. Is this right or wrong?

Or are you just trying to restore performance in a poorly operating system? Would help TONS to know these details, and how much you know about bleeding, etc. If you are trying to bleed a new slave cylinder, it can take 600 to 1800 pumps of the clutch pedal sometimes to clear it out manually. If you want instructions on how to bleed in with vacuum assistance, please post request comment to that effect.

Talk to you soon. TT

the oil blows out due to excessive crankcase pressure. more than likely a piston has a hole in it or it needs rings.

SOURCE: My 89 jeep wrangler 2.5 4 cylinder has 2 holes in

One at front usually goes to the air cleaner box...rear one is for pcv valve, but if cover was installed backwards they may be reversed. Pcv hole usually has a baffle inside to keep it from sucking oil into the airstream.

I have a 1989 jeep yj it started blowing oil out the crankcase vent any ideas why

PCV bad. (or its hose pinched, clogged or even backward)
  1. PCV is failing fix this first for $5 or remove it and see how bad blow by is. visually. (remove only valve covers side to test )
  2. or cracked or collapsed piston.
  3. or cracked head gasket, compression tests pass?
yes one of the best jeeps are YJ, not full 10 stinking married computers , wish every day I never sold my 2002,
2002 is the last good jeep IMO

blow by is most mostly past bad piston rings, even warped cylinder from past overheated engine,

The YJ used a 2.5 L AMC 150 I4 or optional 4.2 L AMC 258 I6 until 1990

which one, 4 or 6 cylinders.???

How much does it cost to do a valve job on a 1990 4cyl jeep wrangler

really depending on how far you want to go as you will need a vrs kit that will be over a hundred and then it all depends on damage done , to hard to be accurate with out the head being removed, crack tested valve seats coupled , surface grind. bit of specialist machineing involved . and other things cropped up like valve stem wear etc . hope that gives you a bit more of a idea

My 1991 Jeep Wrangler, 4 cylinder backfires when I get up around 40 or 50 MPH. It starts to loose power first then backfires. I re-gaped the plugs to specs., changed the fuel filter, but it still does it....

could be the cat.but i would look first at the egr valve and the vacume lines that run to and from it,and vacume test it to see if its working correctly.

My 1991 wrangler 6 cyl runs for few min then what appears to be exhaust and some oil comes out pvc and dipstick, whats wrong?

Sounds like a compression ring in one of your cylinders has broken and compression is being pushed into oil pan. Cylinder compression getting past the piston, instead of going out the exhaust it's going into oil pan and coming through engine (dipstick, air cleaner, PCV.) You'll need to have a compression test to confirm.
