Answered

My son touched the positive terminal while car was running. Car stopped and will not star again. What damage could have been done. Dash lights don't work either

You can lick your fingers & touch both battery
terminals & nothing will happen to you

So have you checked for loose battery cables,
or did he put some metal object across the terminals
& cause a problem

Your alternator should power everything when engine is running. Battery is only for start up. Test voltage with a multimeter when engine is running , should be 14V or more . Any less indicates low alternator output.

Your wiper linkage has come off the wiper motor. To reconnect the linkage, first remove the wiped arms, the remove the wiped cowl. The wiper cowl bolts are located under the hood and screws through the spaces in the cowl. Reconnect linkage, reinstall cowl, reinstall wiped arms.

sounds like you need to replace your battery. If you havent tried to either charge the battery or have someone jump start your car and then let it run for awhile to charge up your battery. If you have done all those and things are still not working its time to replace. If your battery is about 4-5 years old or older then you need to replace battery. Hope this helps...Rick

When I tap the brakes sometimes in my 2011 Holden Cruze, the ABS warning light comes on and the dash control light and radio can flicker on and off.
Hopefully you have had this issue sorted by now going by the date it was posted. However as this post has not been removed, I will give a couple of possible solutions if they do not work then advise taking it to a dealer. ABS faults on this vehicle are normally caused by front wheel sensors. The wires become brittle at the sensor side and with the front wheels being constantly turned the wires brake then when you turn it again it makes contact and momentarily comes good again. Now on saying this it would be odd for it to affect the radio or dash lights. There could be two faults the second issue I would be checking the main battery earth lead and its connections to chassis. Even changing this cable with a new one. Also check tightness of positive lead connections under the red plastic cover on the positive terminal of the battery. As I mentioned if this does not rectify the problems a dealer will need to put a diagnostic computer on the car and see what fault codes come up. Be CAREFULL when checking terminals that when touching battery positive terminal with a spanner you DO NOT allow the other end of spanner to touch anything that goes to ground/earth.(negative terminal) This may cause more damage. You have the polarity of the battery backward somewhere. Did you replace the starter and hook it up backwards. Difficult but possible. Check your positive and negative on the battery itself.

Sorry but my feeling is you need a mechanic to check this out. I jump started a car and touched the wrong side of the battery. We blew out a part which had to be replaced. Cost $180.00 to fix my car.

Michelle, I would recommend taking your vehicle to a local Car Stereo Shop or the dealer. It sounds like your son may have tapped into the incorrect wire in the harness when putting in the new stereo. It sounds like a problem of ignition wire is going to ground. Or the constant power wire is going to ground. Either of these issues would cause this problem.

What you did was sent 12Volt Power through the Entire car. There is no way for ANYONE to know what damage you have caused. The Computer could be fried, Sensors, the list goes on and on as you can tell about putting the Old Stereo in and it working..

This is the same as Jumping your car and putting the wires on backwards... Only Worse, you bypassed the Security Features of the Fuses....

Sorry but you are going to have to troubleshoot every system to find out what damage has been done

The altenator is bad. Not charging the battery and running the car. Once the battery drains the car will die. You can charge the battery and it will run untill it is drained.

replace battery ..melted anode will leak noxious gases and KILL you.....i am inclined to think that a bad or melted ground line is the culprit to the weird dash light situation look from battery terms to main ground strap and clean and tighten..also dash area ...(headlights have their own connections separate from other wiring systems in car)

I had the same problem on our 1999 Forester after replacing the battery. Here was the solution I was given by Subaru Santa Cruz.
1) the key to the ON position where all the dash lights up. 2) disconnect the NEGATIVE battery terminal. 3) wait 15 seconds then reconnect the the battery. 4) start the engine from the ON position.
If this doesn't work, the car must be taken in for repair.

HI.

Follow this step to keep running your sunfire.
1 - Be sure the battery is full charged.
2 - Is better if you put a battery charged
3 - Turn the key to run position and tray to start the car and leave with the key in run position,
With a watch let pass 10 minutes no less. you gonna see the security light flashing and stop flashing after 10 munites.
4 - After 10 munites turn the key to off position during 30 seconds, with watch on your hand, OK.
6-- After the 30 seconds try to star the car
