Ticking sound in engine, oil level looks good
If it is a ticking noise, it probably either lifters or slack in your timing chain (which would be isolated in the front of the engine). More than likely its your lifters which isn't a big deal. Try running thicker oil.
Which engine? "size"?
ever seen a $5 stethoscope.?
using it, you can find any source of any noise. easy.
ever do an oil change every 5k? on older cars , ?
using 10w-30 or 10w-40 oil? not 5w?

Give it a Seafoam treatment - the stuff is available at the auto parts stores and at Walmart. Instructions are on the can - it's an easy procedure that can work wonders on an older engine.
SOURCE: motor making a ticking sound and oil pressure gauge not working
U need to have a mechanical tester hooked up anf the oil pressure measured, sounds like u may have a defective oil pump and the low oil pressure is allowing the hydraulic valve lifter to collapse, don't continue to drive this, u will burn out the engine bearings.

If the noise still sounds like it's on top, I'd remove the valve covers and check the rocker arms to make sure they aren't broken or worn. Also crank the engine over and observe how far each travels. If any are different, a lifter or lifter and cam have gone bad.
If your oil pressure is low or the noise is deep inside the engine, likely you have a crank bearing problem. In most cases it's more economical to get a scrapyard replacement rather than do a rebuild.
Before doing anything like that, have an experienced tech listen to it. Only other thing that can make a noise like that is a broken flywheel. A good tech can tell the difference between noises and give you better advice than I can because he can hear it.

I first would check th eoil to make sure they put the correct ammount of oil in. This sounds like no oil, over oil, or blown gasket
