Most vehicle auto trans are checked while the engine is running and trans is warmed up to normal operating temp. except hondas which are checked with engine off. pull out the dipstick and the fluid level should be somewhere in between the hash marks. if its low just top off a quarter quart at a time and watch the fluid residue on hash mark on the end of dipstick.

Transmission dip stick keeps popping out

check trans. fluid level per owners manual. The high operating temperatures cause fluid to expand greatly,an over-filled transmission can actually force excess fluid out of the dip stick tube.check level with trans. hot, engine running in park on a level surface. After driving, place shifter in park, hold brake and move shifter through all gears and back to park.remove dipstick, wipe clean,re-insert and check fluid level.normally, trans fluid & filter should be changed +/- 100 k miles

Transmission slipping on 03 GMC Envoy. what does iy mean when trans fluid measure high on dip stick?

Two things: #1 someone has overfilled it by mistake thinking they were putting oil in the engine. Yes I have seen this.
#2 The transmission cooler in the radiator could be leaking antifreeze into the transmission through the cooling line raising the fluid level. I would look for milk shake foam on the dip stick and make sure you check trans in park and not neutral.

I need to add fluid to my tranmission but i dont know how

You would need to provide year, make and model for an accurate answer, but generically, trans fills from the dip stick tube. Most trans fluid measurements are to happen at normal operating temperature, engine ilding in park or neutral.

How do you check transmition fluid in a 1996 Standard Mercury Tracer?

Check transmition fluid is via the trans dip stick located were the engine meets the tranny.. Dip stick should be labled transmition with the engine hot and car in park. pull dip stick out wipe clean. reinsert into tube fully then remove. the highest oil level is the reading level is reference to the stamped marking on the dip stick indicating fluid level "high or low"

How do you check transmission fluid on a 1991 pontiac trans am?

You will need to warm the vehicle up to normal temp, then locate the trans fluid dip stick (it should be on the passenger side with red handle) set the parking brake, and place vehicle in neutral. Pull out dip stick and wipe clean, then put dip stick back in, and pull back out, if it is in the cross hatched area stating warm you are good. It should also have a nice pink color to it. If it is a brownish rust color, then it is time for a fluid and filter service.

Were do you put transmission fluid in the transmission?

You have to check the fluid from the bottom on the back side of the transmission with a special tool. So if you don't have a way of getting under the car or have a special tool to do it with then you won't be able to. You also have to fill the fluid using this same hole.

Checking trans fluid level 4.7l 2001 laredo

First check your owners manual if you have one if not, then follow this proceedure. With vehicle in park & ignition off, open hood & remove the dip stick from the trans, should be some markings on dip stick that is stamped w/check in park or check in neutral. There will also be some hash marks, cold add/full, hot add/full. If checking cold, fluid levle will should be between the add & full, if checking the fluid level after driving, w/the vechile still running, check the fluid level w/the vechile in park or neutral, depending on what is stamped on the dip stick, check the hot level, should be between add & full. If fluid level at htis point is on add, then add 500 ml of fluid, check level again and add as needed.

Hope this is helpful.
