Why does my 2008 suburb outback keep spitting gas back at me? Will not accept gas at all.
There\'s a blockage in the secondary tube (about 15mm diameter) that runs down to the tank, adjacent to the main filler tube. Take the back wheel off and you\'ll see a plastic cover over the whole filler neck assembly. The secondary tube often rust and fills with dirt. The tube can get damaged too, if crushed the gas will spit back.

try pulling back a little on the nozzle, the tank has an anti rolloverball in the pipe and this sometimes cause it to shut off when the nozzle is stuck all the way into the filler pipe

there is a vent pipe that runs along side the fill pipe, this allows the air to vent out of the tank as u fill, check it for obstrutions or a kink, u will need to remove it to check this out.

Every gas tank has a vent tube, so when you fill the tank, air can escape, while the fuel is being pumped into the tank. Some vent tubes are metal, some rubber. Yours is either collapsed or plugged up. Look at the fill tube in the firebird and follow it from the gas cap to the tank, there should be a 2nd smaller tube that is your vent tube. Check to see if it's collapsed, pinched, or bent. This is definitely your problem. Check out this web site for pictures of different fill and vent tubes to get an idea of what to look for. Good luck let me know how you make out. Curt

SOURCE: gas doesn't go into tank easily - wants to spit
theres a one way valve in the filler neck of the gas tank and that is spring loaded. it maybe getting jammed up. will need to remove filler necvk and check it's operation. pretty much only thing down there that it could be.

It sounds like a problem with your gas tank venting system when the gas is going in that air has to get out of the tank or else it becomes pressureized and once the pressure reaches ahigh enough level the gas will no longer go down to filler tube You have a system on the vehicle to recover this vapor called the EVAP system it sends it the charcoal canester witch then will send it to the engine to be burned there two valves in this system the canaster vent valve and the canaster purge valve It could be anywhere in this system it could even be a pinched hose but i would start at the canaster vent valve its some where near the tank im not sure on your vehicle but its there see if you can find a hose that comes from the tank and follow it it will leed you to it good luck
