SOURCE: I took my car to

In most cases, the rubber boot that surrounds the CV joint wears out and allows the grease to escape and dirt to enter.

I should take the repair shop approx 1 hour to replace, but beware, some shops have a 2-3-4 hour minimum on their labor and they will charge that for a 1 hour fix...

If you do it yourself, you will need a 30mm socket and a good torgue wrench 150 ft/lbs and better

SOURCE: does my 1997 toyota camry ce 4 cylnder have abs im

ABS was optional on the 97 Camry CE - some have it, some don't. If your car is equipped with ABS, you should have an ABS indicator light on the dashboard, that goes on when you first turn the key in the ignition. But if you are not able to determine whether your car has ABS, it's not a problem. The axles compatible with ABS will also work if your Camry does not have ABS. They cost about the same as axles without ABS. So if you are not sure, just buy the axles for ABS.

SOURCE: I need to remove my front axel on my 1989 toyota

Hi there, here are a few steps to help you through.

  1. Remove hub cap, cotter pin and lock nut. Loosen and remove lock nut from wheel bearing. Remove engine undercover. Remove front fender apron seal.
  2. Use paint to apply mating marks to axle shaft flange and side gear shaft flange; do not use punch marks. Apply brakes and remove 6 retaining nuts on each inboard axle shaft flange.
  3. Disconnect steering knuckle from lower ball joints. Drain transaxle fluid. Remove axle shafts from transaxle. On All-Trac and V6 models, do not compress inboard CV joint boot or CV joint will become disassembled. The drive shaft retaining bolts and washers may be used to keep CV joint together.
  4. Use a plastic hammer to drive axle shaft out of bearing hub. Loosen intermediate axle shaft lock bolt. Remove snap ring from differential bearing bracket and pull out intermediate axle.
Good luck!

I have a 2000 toyota celica gt with a manual trans. It's making a noise while your driving it. Someone told me the axel was bad so I replaced it. That wasn't the problem, but where the axel goes in the...

It could be a wheel bearing either the left or right side maybe both. When driving around corners note if the noise gets louder when turning either way, for example if the noise gets louder turning right then the left front wheel bearing is the problem, the same for turning left, the right front bearing would be the problem. If the noise stays the same and changing on acceleration or deceleration the problem may be more serious, possible a final drive issue like a bad pinion bearing ring and pinion gears.

Need to front pull front axel on the passanger side of a 94 toyota pickup not sure how to disassemble the four wheel drive hub to get the axel out

Here's a manual for the '93. As '94 was the last year of the pickup (not Tacoma) I don't imagine much changed: http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/1993/suspensionandaxle.html

I'am trying to take the transaxle out of the transmission to fix an oil leak

Remove the wheel cover and loosen the drive axel hub nut. loosen the the wheel lug nuts raise the vehicle and support it well. NOTE: you will have to be working under the car be very careful. remove the drive axel hub nut. To prevent the hub from turning, insert a screwdriver thru the brake caliper and into one of the cooling slots on the rotor. remove the control arm-to-steering knuckle. Check for the ABS sensor and remove it out of your way. Separate the drive axel from the hub. If stuck remove the brake caliper and rotor. Push the axel out of the hub with a puller or you can use a good solid broom handle and drive it out. If you are removing the right side axel you will need a slide hammer and adaptor to separate the axel from the trans. If you are removing the left side, carefully pry the axel out of the trans. with a large pry-bar positioned between the inner CV joint and the trans. case. Use the subframe as a pivot point. Hold the CV joints so they do not separate inside the rubber if going to reuse them. Lubricate the new seal with multi-purpose grease before you install it.

What's involved in changing a cv joint in a 2000 Rav 4? I have very good mechanical abilities & have changed cv joints before (about 10 years ago)

Easy enough job really, jack car up, put axel stand under. remove wheel - remove hub nut, remove pinch bolt - prise open the pinch bolt part (sorry cant rem name) pop out the hub from the lower arm. Remove CV join from drive shaft. Usually a tap will pop it out.. sometimes theres a circlip that need removing (models vary). Grease up new CV joint - put grease in new boot, pop boot over drive shaft. put cv join on (replace circlip if provided in kit). join cv to hub - attach CV boot fully. fasten hub nut, replace wheel.

done. might need tracking again or aligning once you do this.

Hi, can you tell me how I can remove left side drieaxel of my 1992 Toyota celica GT I already remove the whole wheel hub assembly away from the car

usually just pry between tranny and axel and pops off. see this has a c clip on the end off the axel so it has some pressure.just pry and it should pop right off. ps make sure theres no pin on the axel if there is just use a center punch and push it out you might need a hammer.

Replace rear axel bearing on 4x4 5.3 Litre gas engine

Loosen differential cover and let oil drain. Remove cover, remove U lock from axel. Pull axel out. Remove bearing seal then bearing. Install new bearing, seal and reinstall axel. Reinstall U lock and new cover gasket. Fill with 75-90wt gear oil. Now I know that sound pretty straight forward. But there are some things to remember. The U lock can be difficult to remove sometimes. The most important thing is the seal, you will need to make sure it gets seated correctly and not torn when installing axel.
