Do I bypass vats to crank over or could it be computer

Ive got a Jetta 2 CSI and had the same trouble. I then discovered that my coldstart packed up, wich you cant even get at the agents anymore. check to see if the wire is broken for the passlock/passkey system in the ignition lock cylinder, its common for the copper wire to seperate inside the insulation, when you tilt the column it could have been pushing the wires together enough to touch inside the insulation

if battery and conectors are very clean and tight,check for bad ground to engine from battery,,also fusable links off of starter or positive small post near fuses, important,,,is the alternator charging ? and have u tried a new battery? voltage should read 13.50 to 14.25 while running 12.5 to 12.65 when not running

I had a similar problem on my 92 LT1 and it turned out to be the opti-spark was bad not signaling the injectors to pulse, if your bypassing the VAT to turn it over then the injectors should fire as well, on the 92 the crank sensor is built into the opti-spark distributor as well, if it turns out to be the opti-spark spring for the MSD sealed and vacuum vented cap or you'll just be replacing the thing every six months, you can test the opti up were it runs into the coil, I dont remeber the exact proceedor but it is on line,
